[WIP] horned lil' devil

on: November 21, 2006, 06:07:07 pm

4th piece ever, I'm kinda happy how it turned out.. but I'm also rather stuck with the shading
Any suggestions for improvement? I'd be grateful for every c/c..

Thanks so far.

Hello to you also :3

There's one question I have before I can give you good critique on the shading; Where is your light source supposed to be at? :0

Well, I could tell it's coming from the upper left. What I'd suggest is to cast more light over the head. Either that or remove the light off the ear.
The design of the devil looks really good. You're really good with line art.

Id the light comes from the top left. The light would propably hit larger parts of his forehead , cheekbones and shoulders.
Perhaps some more contrast between core shadow/cast shadows  and  highlights. Right now its basically just a light outline.

There shouldn't be highlights on the bottom of his head, on the side of his neck (Head blocks the light), or on the bottom of the horn (Should be on top)
Oh yes naked women are beautiful

Shading should further define shape on top of what the line art provides to further devlop the piece's volume.

The shading you've used doesn't provide much information beyond what the line art provides.

Here's a quick edit:

Used a simple "ball-shading" method:
  • Defined the difusely lit regions
  • Added deeper shadows further from the light normal
  • Added specular highlights

Thanks everybody for the quick suggestions.  :D
@surt: Wow, I'm impressed. That's far from what I'd be able to do. Seems like I have to learn a lot more.

yes =)  surt. perhaps the horn could pick up some relected color from the ear? and a bit of colorimperfections would be cool too. esp on the horns, look metalish now  =)
