mushroom with pot on its head

well i got ina pixel battle with tomster 785 and i will own him but i want it to be overkill, so i created, mushroom pothead, apperently a mushroom found a pot and it put it on its head (mushroom from maple story) but i need some help, there are no limits on this battle but i want to know what you guys think i should do

youre piece is very jagged, why not add some aa to it?
i made a little edit, and tried to keep the pallette the same, i deleted one useless color and changed one. grey colors are rarely straight grey, but rather have a warm or cool tint. the pot needs some more contrast and highlights, atm it doesnt look like metal.

Why must you use a 1x1 dither pattern on everything?
It makes it look grainy and bad.

The pasta just looks horrible.


Also, the mushrooms on maplestory have large tops to them.

They way you have it, the pan covers all of that,
So I really don't get "Pan Mushroom" from it.

ok i took away dithering and pasta (but i kept sauce) and its my own creation, its not really a mushroom from ms, its a mushroom with a pot on its head that looks like the ones form ms.... so this is what i got (some one at pixeljoint forum said something about the colourd lighsource, how do i fix that?)

it's a good start m8t... try AAing the eyes and mouth more smoothly. also, try something else for the lighting of the pot, that mint green on it isn't working and doesn't really make sense either the way you put it on there. but you're getting somewhere..

Well I'll be honest, I think it needs a lot of work. Your lines are rough, your colors don't really seem to go together that well and it doesn't look very mushroom-like.

Because I'd rather not describe every little thing I see wrong I made an edit so you can get a fresh look on how you could go about it.

It still doesn't look like a mushroom.
Delgneith's edit is perfect.
He shows you how to shade this properly.

You've made one big shade and that is it.
Where as he's added higlight on the mouth, much better details around the eyes.
His shows depth and yours looks flat.

Excellent improvement!  ;D  I'd make the lightest shade a little bit more round in shape though. See how it's pointy towards the left eye? I'd try to smooth that out a bit.

I personally wouldn't worry about recognition. Yeah, it's nice but... I dunno. I personally think doing art should be more about enjoyment on your part than anything. Improvement is also good but... a good balance, moderation, I think, between enjoyment of art for yourself and enjoyment of recognition is good.
