My very first pixel art piece

on: June 21, 2017, 09:26:04 pm
Hello everybody!
I want to learn the wonders of game design so yesterday I started learning the basics with Game maker studio 2 and I would like to make a simple platform game. Nothing too dificult, just something I can patch together from the various tutorials that can be found on the internet.
Since my strong side is illustration I would like to make some nice pixel sprites and animate them.

I've never had experience with pixel art but today I've tried my hand at character concept for the platform game.
It's a sneaky raccoon.

Any thoughts or tips? I've kind of jumped straight in and Im filling my knowledge in on the go.
I've used 64x64 grid and Photoshop.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Appealing cartoony art style, with some pretty rough lines. Try to clear up those jagged curves and put some time into antialiasing it! Check the glossary thread for other things to try:

Thank you for the feedback! I've tried to soften the lines. I think there are probably some problematic areas, but I guess this stuff takes practice :)

appear to have a few doubles in there around the ears and tail and one on the side of the face.

I found this video quite useful for explaining the issue with doubles on lines
