[C+C] Medieval House

on: July 26, 2016, 01:39:15 am
I am fairly new to pixel art, and after a botched attempt at a person and a few other drawings, I attempted to make a medieval-looking house:

I realized after making this image that the canvas is too small, and I struggle with up-sizing drawings; any suggestions on how to do this?  The roof was also a bit difficult to get the look right, and any suggestions to improve it (on the current or translating to larger canvas) would be appreciated!  If you notice anything else out of place, I would appreciate the criticism!

With the way the corners look it appears to be more of a tent than a house. It's a neat look, for sure, even if accidental. The idea of applying more solid building supplies to such a basic thing as a tent shape might have some merit for a fantasy structure, I'll have to experiment with that one day.
Still, the way the lines continue like they do makes it seem like tent pegs.

Thanks for the comment, it does look like a tent with the corners of the roof so close to the ground!  I'm switching the edges of the roof to curl up on the larger canvas so i can put some sort of figure at those curled points.

I've made the larger canvas version!  Same critique areas as above.

the walls dont have enough texture compared to the roof.

I think the house looks quite flat, since even though you can see the roof of the house, there's a lot of things being omitted such as being able to see the top of the flower box, or the shadows being cast onto the wall from the roof.

Sloppy edit, might be unnecessary to include this, but this is what I mean.

Putting some contrast on the wall would be good too I think since you can't really make out the wall texture all that well.

I think I get what you mean. I got this result after tweaking it a bit:

The textures look kind of random and a lot of the colors are unnoticeable unless you zoom in. You usually don't need colors that don't have enough contrast between them to be noticeable. Filling spaces with pixels can seem hard. I used to fill everything with noise too, but in pixel art less is usually better.

I feel like this needs so many more details. The roof has too much saturation. You should take this image as a reference. (it's not mine)
