[C&C] Tracer Headshot

on: June 05, 2016, 09:16:54 pm

Something about this image seems so wrong, but I can't really place my finger on it. Could I have some help on it?

I think there's a bunch of stuff to work on here, but notably here is that her hair is way too shiny and doesn't really fit with tracer's do. I reccomend trying again from reference.

Note that the front of her hair has 3 parts, a bigger clump over her face with a second clump behind and another sticking straight left.
In the back you have some smaller clumps and the big straight-up-and-left clump, which is important to her silhouette.

That said, if you play around with what you got here you have the basis for a really nice sort of "warped" look, which would fit with her persona as a walking talking time paradox creation machine.
Maybe get some stretching in there on her face, maker her look all animation-smeary.

Pay closer attention to the shapes and proportions.
It feels like you are not letting a lot of parts be big enough.
Several areas in my edit could be much fatter as well.

The forms you've put down don't feel like they wrap around each other and fit in 3D space.
Her face needs to fit inside of her googles.
Her neck needs to be surrounded by her collar.

Mess with the colors some as well.
I didn't take the time edit them.

Alright, messed around with the image a bit and basically changed the entire thing. I (think) I fixed the hair, increased the perspective so the goggles don't look so out of place, and worked on the face. The face still looks a bit weird tho, especially the eyes. How does it look?

jesus it looks kinda wonky doesnt it

You're going for the trippy thing, and you're almost there! Put some thought into the flow of the drawing, of not here is that her neck is stretching up and right but her shoulder's there breaking that nice curve created by her face and neck.

I do think it's worth doing some studies on proper anatomy, but rolling with what you do have is often a great way to stay motivated and producing unique content while you're in the process of learning.

Does this look better? I'm afraid to make the curve smoother cause I think it'll make the drawing even wonkier. (I hope I understood what you meant)

Here, kind of lazy but this is more what I was nudging for. There's a bit of distortion along her neck and face and it wasn't quite translating to the rest of her body, sort of a fisheye effect.

Certainly getting there! I'd say add in some of tracer's classic "trail" effect and it'll look complete.

After this though, I do recommend studying up some bone structure. It can help immensely just to go "hey I'm going to draw a skeleton today in simply ludicrous detail"

I'd say have the trail zig-zag off to the right of screen, but right idea!
and yeah its the best
you also get to draw people without skin when you get into musclemode and it's metal as heck

God these comments are funny. XD

Here's some thought from what I can see,

the hair seems like a comb over, instead of volume, you know teased ? it's got that super saiyan kinda volume. Just points in direction and such, I think I'll try create one and see how it comes out, then we'll know if what im saying has any meaning. XD

Your character does look wonky, but it really has an interesting look to it, how ever what they're suggesting looks more professional and may get you further.

The eyes aren't as circular, rather oval or such, giving it a more uhm stern look.. a brighter look. yes she looks bright, killer and all. not ... goof ball.

The suggested goggles are more in shape, and isn't like a piece of cloth over her face rather the idea of leather ? like the one you're working on is currently smoothed out over her face and ends anywhere, you want it to protect her eyes, it needs some depth/dimension to make up for the fact that it's on her face and not apart of her skin.

The smile is lovelier, nothing much to it, yours currently looks funky.. and a button for a nose.

The chin is more defined, like pointy old man shoes.
From there the chin moves up towards the jaw bone, and up towards her ear.
under that reveals her neck that's tuck under a puffy russian jacket. XD You're using three shades of color for the hair, I noticed this now, one difference i see between the provided sample is that the brown has more thickness to it, but yeah i'd like to try this one too. :3 I'll probably make a mess of it but to see three different art styles tried on one character, would be nice.
