Try studying arm anatomy in depth for a while, then come back to this, it'll be easy. Arms are a trickier mass of fat and muscles than they appear, so trying to stylize them with just the outline can be tricky and noodly.

Here's a Da Vinci reference that works quite well:


Personally, I think Sean Galloway is a master at simplifying arms, have a look here:

The arms you've used on the first sprite are actually pretty ok, but if you're not satisfied with them, check out a few boxing poses.
This one is what you're looking for I guess;
