a sprite I made for a battle on "PIXEL forums"

on: September 15, 2006, 07:00:52 pm
32x32 8 colors (took about 8 miniutes)

here
this is for the first round... the second round is a boss; and that decides it

A quick spruce up, could have you adding some detail/texture to the creature, tattoos or scars or something. Since at the moment it's good for the size and idea but just lacking a little.

Best of luck for the battle.

I'm only allowed 8 colours... I was really restrcting myself with this peice I'll add that scar thing and I'll try for a skull tattoo type thing (because the claws are white)

EDIT: well here is the new version this is like two seconds of extra work

You're using too much colours for what you're getting. You can easily make this with 4 or 5 colours and it would look the same. Drop the saturation, remove the background, don't use coloured outlines, give it some texture, shapes, anatomy and add some hue shifts perhaps?

Oh, btw, stop running away from your previous topics and fix those pieces first.

For 482 seconds of work, i dont know what to say. Quite frankly, im dumbfounded.

Much improvement needs to be done here. 8 colours is quite alot for a piece of that size. Use more variation. Don't try and shade everything. Just practice different techniques. Don't be afraid to screw anything up either because if you cooperate with us, we will help you fix them.

I'm sorry to seem if I'm arguing with you with this but I cant take away the outline without taking away the scar and then I wouldnt of taken away any colors at all, and
@Gil: I wasnt running away from those peices I had to make this for a battle (read first post)

I wanted to make a little edit of your devil but I went a bit overboard I think.

Hope it helps a bit to show you what can be donw with 8 colours in that size. Problem is that your colours are too close to be told apart so you basically waste some of them, And in small sprites it's not a good idea to have a solid outline like that, unless they only have 4 colours or less.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.
