wizard lady

Yo.

Made this and I'm kinda stuck? This is from scratch in GIMP. Didn't make any concept sketches or anything aside from working copies in the program itself.

How effective is this?
Things she has that I wanted to be obvious:
Orange hair fanning out
Large cloak with collar

Things giving me issues:
Shading in general I guess, especially cloak to dress
Eyes
Too many colours?

Feel free to edit, I'd really like to see how people do better than this with the size limitations.
thanksssss :D

Hi,

Biggest issue is I couldn't notice your collar at all and the lack of texture.

If you're just trying to show off the hair and collar then start ditching some of the other unnecessary things. Here I just dropped the face entirely.
Made the hat all fancy and crooked so people know she's a witch wizard lady.
Your colour count was actually fine (although i did reduce it a smidgen), but mostly you didn't have good value ramps (and I threw in some hue shift, but ignore that for now).

Hope it helps. :y:

The orange hair on the side reads as arms.  Where are her real arms?  Are they supposed to be hidden somewhere?  If so, I think that you've set yourself upon an impossible task.  Her hair is going to read as arms no matter how well you draw it.

I think that her eyes are adorable.

Cool. Thanks for the great edit Ambivorous, good to remind me that texture actually exists haha. Slowly learning about how much contrast to use. I'll give this another try, might add some visible arms. They're kinda supposed to be hiding inside the robe.
