[WIP] I made this Mario picture, and wanted some honest opinions.

Before I show the picture, I just wanted to say that I'm an amateur when it comes to pixel art, and this is my best work, so far, and I really wanted some honest opinions as to what could be improved within this picture



This picture is currently not completely finished, but to the point where I think I could show it to people.

There's a LOT of extra shades used, especially on Mario.  With what you're doing, you can probably knock the number of colors on Mario to 3-4 different shades per color.  The red especially looks really cluttered up close.

Otherwise, some of the background elements (The green side of the center platform especially) having inconsistent shading.



I really like the style and background.  It's a nice contrast.

Is the mismatched resolution intentional or an artifact produced by improper scaling?
