Requiring all feedback please!

on: August 12, 2014, 08:46:50 am
What needs improvement here? Everybody in my previous pixel art works has been like "NEEDS MORE COLOR CONTRAST!!!" and all of that sort of talk so i decided to give it a go with a leaf..

Please show me reworks
give me some constructive feedback

Edit: Im trying to make it look juicy and delicious. (for a game)

Because the way you've shade this it looks like some exotic nuclear fruit cut in half. That highly saturated green (and those spots) doesn't help at all. Leafs don't have this dark brown "branch" which also contributes to fruit look. You have 25 colors here which is a lot for simple leaf. Green area in the middle of the leaf is too thick and dark green on the bottom make leaf rounded (in 3d space). Also you have some pillow shading here.

Read this http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299  find better reference and try again.

Man, as i red through your reply i literally couldnt stop laughing. Everyone in the room i was in were looking at me. Ahaha man you are a legend. But yeah. So i should reduce the colors. I dont really know how to create and work with color palletes. But hey since you know what you are talking about can you make a leaf similar to mine? So i can use it as a guide? (In terms of coloring)

No the idea is that you do it.
And use this palette if you have problems limiting your colors:

Does scaling an image blur it?

I don't have the time right now to make edit (maybe later). Use what I've already tell you and 9_6s color palette and try by yourself. It's the best way to learn.

I might toss in my own edit as well. There is a ton of noise in your image, and so many colors that are similar (I counted 49 shades of green, and 21 shades of brown). I normally try to limit myself to about 5 colors per shade (five greens, etc).

Im looking forward to all of your versions :D

As soon as i get the chance i will fix the leaf. With that specific color pallete only. Sorry for the bad leaf. I hope you guys understand that im new and that i do what i see. Im not quite sure on how to make the leaf look a little puffy but i tried atleast (and miserably pillow shaded)

anyone?

It looks like a laurel leaf so here's a reference for that if you need a guide to go by.

If that's not the type of leaf you had in mind, please provide the reference you went for.

You can't just demand edits you need to inspire people to make them.
If you show them you want to learn, the'll give edits in return.

Don't use to many colors, try to use interesting shapes, and all of the above advice ;)
Now it's your turn!
