A Robot I Made

Really, all I want is to see if someone can this kinda stupid robot I made out of boredom.
It's 100% made by myself.



Good luck, I can't wait to see what ways this could look better.

By the way, that swatch set to the right is the colors I picked to use on it, I ask that you use that or an edit of it when you post.


I realized when I made the original one, it was extremely bland and boring, and I only used a little of the decent set of colors I collected for myself.
So I tried working on it, fixed the legs because I thought they looked bad, and added some flare to the design.
Basically, I edited my own work, still can't fix that hand though, just looks off but I can't place whats wrong.

You applied shading with a light source (good  ) but then each part of the robot is shaded equally, and no part casts shadow onto others, just as if your robot was a set of pearls laid on a table.

Thank you for the tip, but in all honesty, this sprite is free hand and I have no clue as to how the pieces on my robot would over-lap, not counting the skirting and the shoulder guards.

If that's the case then you should think of your sprite as a 3 dimensional object (which it is since it's being hit by a light source) as opposed to thinking of it as a flat one. It's a little hard to grasp at times especially when working with something moderately complicated with a lot of parts but once you start doing it you'll see how each part interacts with the other in terms of light and shadow.

Total newb here, but I would like to make an attempt on this when I have time. I don't at the moment.
Instead I will help you with posing image references to help you with what has been suggested.  Look at the shape and shadows.

Im sure if you looked around you could find a bajillion examples of this sort of pose.  I recommend just practicing on one portion of the body at a time if you can't get the full anatomy going.  For example, just play with the arm.  Then maybe the head and the upper torso to link in to the arm.  Then the other arm.  Only go on when you have one the way you want it and tweak it slowly.  Zoom in and out a lot.  Stare at examples.
