First Pixelart: Youtube Logo [C+C]

on: October 08, 2013, 09:48:01 pm
This is my first  picture:, based on this Youtube Logo: , and i'm wondering if someone could help me perfect it, as i am not very good at it, (I use the program graphicsgale, so maybe telling me of a program that's better could help also) Keep in mind that i'm also pretty terrible at it, so i would truly appreciate C+C. thanks

Some thoughts:

- Pay more attention to the proportions in the reference.
- Pull some colors from the ref.
- Make the contrast between the overlapping colors stronger, such as the blue to white and blue to yellow.
- I also use Graphics Gale. Try some other pixel programs and see what you like.
- Spend more time drawing in general.

So I edited it slightly, changing the tint of the tongue to what you would normally expect a tongue to be, do you think this was a good call or bad?

Don't just take the edit PPD made, you wont learn anything by doing that. Try to do your own edits based on the tips he gave you.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.

Not to mention the fact that it's his art..

It's fine.
But realize it is not just because we want you to follow the rules of Pixelation
You should do the work by hand for your own interests.
I strongly encourage you to take your original image and draw over it.
Try to take it in at least 3 or 4 directions, compare them all and then clean up the one you like most.

Well it's really just a matter of choice.
I went for color re use so I picked out some colors that were noticeable but didn't stand out too much.
If you want to add a color specifically for the tongue I'd recommend using it in a few other places in the image.
