faces

on: July 26, 2011, 10:10:22 pm
Hey it's me again, I have trouble drawing faces lately even if i'ts required of me, I hope I could get some critique on these rough versions. They are part of a set where i have to make every face in two versions one in 30*30 the other in 60*60.
I hope I could get some critique on how they look the anatomy and their posture, and the colors are from arnes pallet with some added by me.

Here is the first two:

B.t.w. They are supposed to be view'd with X2 zoom.

The guy with the glasses has a forehead way too short.

Originally his hair was taller, but when you point it out i guess you're right. Or maybe its the other way? Like the other guys head is to tall?

I'd think about looking at some references. Try oninon skinning a mugshot of some ordinariy-looking person over the pixelart just to get the proportions right.

Not saying everything has to be photorealistic, caricature style is nice aswell if that's what you're going for.

I really like the colors and how you've them in the first set of portraits. The only thing I thought was a bit strange is the light sources. The high-res face seems to be lit from the lower right, while the hair and body is lit from the top right corner. In the low res version the guy is lit from the top right corner, but the fire background would to me suggest being lit primarily from below or the side. Lastly I think the large amounts of pure black in the hair should be swapped for some less sharp color.

Just my 2 cents, I really like the style though.

Sorry that I didn't have time to reply. I actually used reference on that drawing I cant quite find it now, but i was more of a stylized portrait.
But anyways, I did a self-portrait. And need some crits on it.
