I like the style, goes well with the tinyness.

The girl is easier to read, because her colors are more saturated and varied, while the guy looks a bit monotone. I'd suggest more contrast for him, specially on the body, only at 2x can we make out details, while the girl looks good at 1x.

I really really like the guy. but Indigo speaks the truth, he just isnt readable at real size, he looks awesome zoomed up though, I love the way you structure him with rectangles.

he doesnt HAVE to be in real size any way, it all depends on how you want to display him.

you obviously made this just for the heck of it, so you could simply display it 200% all the time.

Anyways, around here, we'd rather have it at 1x (just because we have zoom, and we like things at real size). But it really does look better at 2x.
I feel you could add just one more blue pixel to the guy's arm, but I'm somewhat sure that's more of a style thing.
