Need Help! Tesselation Project

So I've been trolling for a while and trying out stuff on my own, and I've decided to try and make a pixel art that tesselates. I've even considered putting it up in the Challenges forum and making a tile challenge. But before I get that far I'm trying to shade my lineart myself, and I really am stuck. Where would I get started on shading something like this?

a pixel tessalation project sounds fun, but anyways

like goodnights edit, there should be some texture to it
also while most of the lighting isnt wrong(things like the wings are) i dont think it was pulled off succesfuly.

the lineart is way too ... uh linear, make some more curves.
