walk cycle girl

on: February 03, 2011, 07:26:36 pm
Hey y'all, I'm new here and still pretty new to pixel art and animation really, but I thought I would give a walk cycle a try -

The arms are still pretty noodly (and in some cases nonexistent d:) - I'm more focused on getting the legs looking okay atm

I'm trying to do simple, solid colors and get the animation right before I go in and make the actual girl, but I'm not sure if I'm approaching it right.  :-[

Well for the side view the beginning is smooth but hits the floor choppy IMO.
EDIT: Heres sorta what I mean,I added two more frames.

EDIT:Crap I missed two words when typing,my fault.

What i see initially as a problem, is that when the leading leg hits the floor, the blody should drop.
@Mr_Lright now you just have the body growing and shrinking randomly throughout.
unlike the original where the body drops respectively to where the leg actually is, but yes, more frames is required to make a smoother animation, but still that may/could be avoided with a faster frame rate, i dont know.

your choice of color, is your voice of color

thanks you guys! I added two more frames and tried to give her a bit more bounce - I'm a little more happy with the sideview walk since it looks a little more cutesy and bubbly which is actually what I was going for, but the front view is just terrible and I'm not even sure how to go about fixing it

any suggestions?

Right now in the up/down motion the up is a slow rise, and the down a snap. I think reversing that could better convey a 'bubbly' feeling?

Tried an edit, might help:

Well, she looks angry in the front view, but playing with the shadows would fix this, I guess.
Good luck! o/

There should be some hip movement I think. As in the legs should not go forward in a straight route, but the feet should go a bit towards the center, which would make the hip sway.
There are no ugly colours, only ugly combinations of colours.
