There seems to be some unintentional artifacts on these. Notice around the sun, the bushes, and the side of the shuttle. These artifacts make the piece feel messy.

I see what you mean. They were actually intentional, and intended to add a sort of...glow...to the objects in question. Any suggestions to make that come across in the piece, maybe if the artifacts were a bit brighter?

Use only one, maybe two, colors for the glow effect so the viewer knows that the palette is still controlled and the effect is intentional. I would say take one of the lightest tints that's already there and use that.
