[WIP?] Unnecessary Glass Orb

So I did this thing a while ago to pick on my friend. He said that he didn't know why I used paint, you can't do gradients, etc. So I handmade a gradient and he rolled his eyes, since then I made this. Please tell me what you think, if you see any places where the shading could be more fluid, etc.

I say WIP? Because I am unsure if I'll make a new version. The newest one is on the left (because I didn't want to overwrite the original to see how visible the changes were, and I posted the whole set up for others to compare on deviantART.)

I don't know why, but that orb reminds me of an old game, think it was called Myth or something, Myst? Mist?
There's not much critic you can give an orb, you know.^^

I does look good but making something like that with pixel art is redundant.
You could make the same thing in less time using gradients with color limitation.
If you stylized it with pixel art and used less colors and it would give it more of a general pixel feel.

With respect to detail, as it were... I was more trying to show my friend I could do it.
Is it too ostentatious, then?
