you need to define a light source, that is where the light will be coming form. I think you've pillow shaded a lot of the trunk and branches which means the light is coming from you, try doing it from a corner or but a moon in the background and use that as a light source

the overall structure of the tree doesn't really look like a tree, the mirrored branches dont do it any justice. Unless your going for a style of your own, you might want to consider a shape more like the one in this photo:  Clicky

have u tried to get a reference? It may be a good idea to do so, google image search is always good to try

edit: link works, thanks Ryan

A problem with your link, Mim, it should lead to this:
Dead Tree Example

But otherwise, do not attempt a frontal light source, however, if you did, the tree wouldn't really have many (if any at all) shadows on the front, and don't mirror the branches. And another small tip, most trees are usually not as thick as yours is, they're somewhat more in the middle, you should decrease it's radius quite a bit.

Can you at least put forth the minimum effort to bother doing an edit of your own after getting helpful feedback from two different members?  Also, stop working on a pure black background, unless this tree will only be displayed over black in-game, its making your color choices WAY too dark.

Macer, uh..... right: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/new_icons.asp?dosearch=1&ob=search&search=tree

For normal trees just use google dude, it's not difficult when you have a tool called the "Internets".

Yeah the form of the tree needs work, colors need more contrast and just need to be hue slided and saturated a bit more. Also, Adam's right, listen to him.
