Pixel Art / Re: Trying a new style [C&C Needed]
« on: May 08, 2011, 04:42:53 pm »
I don't think you should worry about styles too much right now. Try to practice the fundamentals of art (they're fundamentals for a reason) and practice pixelling techniques. I'm not saying make everything super realistic, but a stronger understand of light, form and color will help you out. Anatomy too.

Once you've figured out the rules you can start breaking them.

I'll post an edit soon. :]

This might be worth looking at. You can deviate from the style and still have the character be recognizable.

http://youtu.be/zdR92Do9Dpw made a video!
It's amazing! You seamlessly integrated animation and live-action! XD
It's really amazing though, I've watched it several times and have used it to convince friends to play PC with me.

2D & 3D / Re: Official OT-Creativity Thread 2

@trough: Close. It's a relief print, but with sintra (pvc foam board) rather than wood. Images are probably about three feet tall btw, for my big relief class.
Finishing those must have been a big relief huh?
Ok I'm gonna shoot myself in the foot now.

Huzzah! Complete! I'm pleased with how this turned out, watching the reveal on tzigla was well worth it.
Link to completed image.
Beautiful.
I feel pretty good about my pig, the squid is clearly subpar though. Glad to see someone took care of that dinosaur butt tile.

A lot of great gems in there!

Just smoothed out some lines. Quickly (and poorly!) tossed on a highlight to see how it would look.

Just try rendering this out a bit more.

They're very similar to the ones I made. Did you use them as refs?

(I made these specifically for an 'Advanced Wars' remake.)
Eerily similar.
Since I think mush's work is nice and cute I'll just give you some C+C for what you did. The animations. They are bad. Specifically the firing, those look like it's slowly birthing a giant watermelon or something. You should create a pause between the build up and the "burp" if you want any sense of power to it. Right now I expect it'll be just dropping a cannonball instead of hurling a bullet.

@Mush: I really like your work tehehiehef

Ok. Now its to make something new.
I agree completely!

Mush, that's my favorite post I've seen in a while. Thank you.

Why is the inside of your green's mouth light?

Took five seconds to crudely destroy the lines between same shades of bricks. I don't think it looks flat.

@Sakket: Do you just use an x-acto knife, metal ruler, scissors and some glue sticks? That's all I've got and I've been getting glue all over my fingers. It's a bit of a hassle getting these little guys put together that way. Do I need more nimble finger? My girlfriend seems to have no problem putting these together. She refuses to explain her techniques, maybe you can share yours.

If I was 18 and had a debit crd I would TOTALLY buy one of these, make that the WHOLE darn set.
You just need to go to his blog and print the things up. They're free, he's really that nice of a guy.
