Pixel Art / Re: Clowning Around

It's better. The purple tint helps. I agree with the comment about the hand also. At the least try to see the left hand with the darker half being the lower half instead of the upper. Even if you define the thumb. The position right now is more like what you would see in a spoon. :y: ;D :n:

Something else you could try as a test, is to take the clowns left hand exactly at the position it is and flip horizontally. Then shift it to the right so it sticks out away from the rest of the arm. This gives more of a balance. Also test that balance with a background. Usually in figure it's good there too.

General Discussion / Mouse sensitivity
« on: July 18, 2010, 12:35:53 am »
Does anyone have sensitivity problems with a mouse using Graphics Gale? I have a fairly decent mouse, but when trying to move over one pixel, sometimes it jumps by 3 pixels. Has anyone experienced this specifically using Graphics Gale? The same mouse is pixel smooth using photoshop. Are there settings for this in GG?

The clown stands out. Clowns should be colorful. I think it's just right. Any more pixeling might be too much dithering. However, there might be some room for some shading.

General Discussion / Re: Photoshop Pixeling for Beginners?
« on: July 17, 2010, 11:33:03 pm »
Jad, I have been thinking the last couple of days. I would really like to move from photoshop to GraphicsGale. The reason I am telling you is, that after trying the software, I found out that it is easy to load a scanned image to pixel over. What is difficult is the sensitivity of a mouse over the screen. You mentioned in your post that in the last place you worked, you used photoshop. I am assuming that when it get's to serious pixel art, you might use something else. I know I started this as a photoshop thread, but could you tell me a little about your workflow. Do you sketch, scan what software and etc. I would be interested. I am finding out why people like GraphicsGale so much. Really is nice.

In fact if anyone can add to this question, please do.

OK, guys. The pressure is on. I re-installed GraphicsGale. However, could someone give me an example of how to integrate Photoshop into a pixeling workflow? For many tasks, I would prefer to use photoshop as my primary tool.  Please keep in mind that I am listening to all tips. I will really give GraphicsGale a good go. So any tips on how to use the two together are appreciated.

General Discussion / Photoshop Pixeling for Beginners?
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:48:17 am »
OK, I'm done looking at the lighter software, GraphicsGale and MS Paint for example. Nice software, but access to photoshop means more possibilities.

Could someone give me a rundown on pixeling with Photoshop. Anything from workflow explanations to tutorial links. I am new to this site, and it's great, but also huge. I could easily get lost. In fact I'm not sure where I am now.  :)

I would like to try to keep this thread going if it works out, by adding questions. Hopefully it attracts attention. I am a complete beginner to pixeling and I have some very basic sketching skills. I am interested in pixel art and also pixel interface design. I especially like the menu buttons and tabs in this sites layout. Also the fonts. Anyway, anything helps.

Please don't hesitate on re-directing me to older threads that are ongoing. I don't know what to search for.

Best tutorial so far I think, is http://www.derekyu.com/?page_id=218.

General Discussion / Re: GraphicsGale, limitations?

Ok, very cool.

I decided to concentrate on Photoshop, after looking at GraphicsGale and MS Paint. I started a new thread. Thank you for the intro and the comparison.

General Discussion / GraphicsGale, limitations?
« on: July 15, 2010, 10:32:42 pm »
I would like to give GraphicsGale a try and noticed it come up in alot of conversations. I am new to pixel art, and have some questions regarding limitations.

There are several good tutorials out there, for example Derek Yu.

He talks about importing a sketch.

Is it possible to work in this way with GraphicsGale. It seems, that importing pencil sketches is an important consideration. Not necessarily having the option to import scans, but being able to load it as a layer. Are the pixels too big for this to be effective? The software seems zoomed in by default.

Also, is there anyone that would recommend GraphicsGale over Photoshop. Don't misunderstand, I know PS is an industry standard and all around great software, but the Pixel scene has some incredible techniques and such, that warrants looking at other options for a workflow reason. Can someone post some differences and positives between the two software packages? ???
