Hello,

It's a good idea to start with a smaller amount of colous, but I think you should get rid of those (out)lines in your picture unless you're going for a cartoony style. If you can't render the grass because it's to small, don't. I hope you don't mind I did a little edit. It's not particulary better. It's just mend to show what I mean. I hope it helps

I don't get why you place the shadow of the trees leaves right under the tree, like it's twelve o'clock in the afternoon. While the trunks shadow seems to be alright. ???
I think the new tree is way better.

Hi,

I noticed my avatar has barely any shading at all, so I decided to make him look a little more muscled.
This is what I came up with:

I've tried again regarding Hideons trunk study. My last tree didn't have a trunk texture. So, tried to improve that.
You also added roots. Since my tree haves to be in a platformer game I'll have to make a flat base. But I have made roots on the sides.
Also changed the palette again. It's really hard to get the colors right. Better?

It's just a part of a bigger tree and is not finished. I posted it now because I was wondering if I'm going the right direction now.

Thank you for your reaction and edit.

I've been playing around with the colors. The left version has a bit warmer colors. The middle one has more contrast (my favourite) The last trunk has a brighter middle brown than the middle. Better?
Do you have any tips for shading it? (I want to redo it again)

Pixel Art / help on tree trunk

Hello,

I know there are tons of topics about trees, I've been reading lots of them, but got stuck anyway.
I'm trying to draw a nice tree. I have tried three times now but I am not to satisfied about the result.
The third one is the newest.

I wanted to make it even bigger, but I decided to start out small to get the shading right.
I hope you can help me improve it.

I think this looks really good.
Two things I don't like:
-His right fist appears to be way bigger than the left one.
-Also his right foot stand doesn't match with his leg and knee pose. His leg looks like his foot should aim outward.

Feel free to disagree, I'm not an artist. :)

I really like this style and this one looks good to me. It gives me an awesome I-am-in-a-huge-empty-city feeling. I don't like the hard black of your character. It makes it look like the charater is standing in front of the environment, instead of in it.
It's a funny choice to make the gun pink. I think it definately fits in the style, but it doesn't look to deadly. What about red?

Maybe it is also woth trying to swap the yellow and purple colours, so the corridor is bright and the background dark.

Pixel Art / platformer background
« on: January 14, 2012, 05:14:10 pm »
Hey,

I'm having some trouble with my game background. It's some kind of laboratory/factory environment at night.

I think it hasn't the right atmosphere and the background(I mean the steel plates thing) is to simple anyway. Do you have any comments on this? And what do you think of the pallete. I'd love to improve this. :)

I'm not nearly as good as other people on this forum, but I tried to do an edit on your princess sprite. I think you should try making her stand a little more natural, lik a human instead of a robot:

I hope you can use my advise. :)
