Well that definitely is an improvement! Maybe you could dissolve the outlines even more, I dunno. Just personal preference.

If you feel happy with the rendering of the rock wall, go ahead and work on the other stuff.

Duke Nukem was always sexist, wasn't it? Whether the player is sexist or not, playing a Duke Nukem game, for me only depends on whether the player has a sexist mindset from the start.

With what distance does the player play duke nukem? What part about these acts entices the player? Is it fun because it's utterly ridiculous to the player, or fun because it's fun to the player to slap a bitch?

I don't know. It was expected.

I think it's that the two cheeks don't really look alike. We had bad lighting conditions so sometimes some shapes would be completely hidden in the flatness of the light ' 3 '

draw some whole darker bricks and some lighter bricks in believable places, instead of drawing outlines around them

or draw some bricks vaguely, with broken-up outlines, giving the idea of texture without being too lego-like.

I don't know. Just two suggestions

Yeah, straighten out the hair in the middle and let it curl at the end, since the hair in the middle has to carry the most weight

in an environment that's only lit by hot colors like red and yellow it makes no sense to have neutrally gray smoke. It's even impossible given the lighting conditions. Everything would end up red-yellow. Gray is impossible in this environment.

Haha, nah, keep going, trooper. People aren't trying to get you down, they're recognizing that your art is good, so they only spend their energy on telling you how to make it better.

Once upon a time art like this would make people on this forum run in circles over its goodness and how nice the pixel tech is on the sprites. ' U ' people just got more critique-oriented since then. But it's still good.

Do start studying focal points and the such, though. I think your approach is right. Try backgrounds just to have the attempt in your system, it can't hurt. Doing things the 'wrong' way is a good learning experience and a good place to start from when you start learning the actual techniques. But from here on, if you wanna get better at drawing backgrounds, try to study perspective a bit, try to use it and use and study reference.

If you're prepared to rework most of the background you could always keep going on this. I'm sure people would like to help out.
