General Discussion / Sprite size question
« on: December 03, 2018, 09:33:20 pm »
Hello Everyone!

I have a question about sprite sizes and animations that's been bugging me for quite a while now, and I can never seem to find a solid answer no matter how hard I look. I was wondering if when a game console, like the SNES, specifies that sprites must be 32x32 or whatever dimension, does it mean that the sprite needs to be exactly 32 pixels high by 32 pixels wide, or does it only mean that the sprite needs to fit in a 32x32 box, but it can be smaller? Similarly, how would a sprite animation work then? Is it also constrained by the sprite sizes, or can it be bigger?

Pixel Art / Re: Walk cycle arms cleanup
« on: November 22, 2018, 06:59:49 pm »
Well for starters the movement of the arms in time with the legs isn't how a person actually walks. The way you have it now is that both the right leg and right arm move forward at the same time whereas a natural walk cycle should have the left arm move forward when the right leg moves forward and vice versa for the left leg. Also the top half of the body is rather static. I made a quick edit to that by bobbing the head up and down on the 3rd and 7th frames because that is the point in a walk cycle where the body should be the lowest, as the foot is stepping down.

Pixel Art / Gameboy-esque mockup Wip
« on: November 20, 2018, 06:14:42 pm »
Hello everyone! I've been doing pixel art for around 4ish years and I've been a lurker on this forum for quite a while now and I finally decided to make an account and post something

For this piece I decided to try to constrain myself to the resolution and color palette of the original Gameboy. Other than that, I didn't really set any other constraints for myself, so it's not going to be an entirely faithful mockup. I'd appreciate any comments or critiques you might have!
