Pixel Art / Re: New Pixel [WIP]

Also, just as a mental exercise, I think it could be useful to give yourself a short homework assignment before you continue with this piece.  It's very easy!  Find a photo of a sunny day outdoors.  That's it!  However, there is a catch.  The grass must be (0,128,0) and the sky must be (0,255,255) and the sun must be (255,255,0).  When you find that photo, post it here!

We should play a game: the person who can come up with the most original way to tell people that the world doesn't look like this wins.  Kidding.  On a more general note (as I don't know which thread came first) read the forum and pay attention to crits people get and then when you look at your piece ask yourself whether any of those crits apply.  I lurk here and  I don't enjoy my retinas getting burned out repeatedly.

I'm not sure what you're aiming for but it still looks like you're in four year old mode.  Shading a green blob isn't really helpful in learning anything.

Way too many shades of green.  I also suggest going outside and have good hard look at what things actually look like.  Look at the colours of things like grass, and think about texture.  Also, though many cartoons and kids' drawings might have you believe that the sun is this huge yellow blotch in the sky, it is not.  I should also hope that you don't go outside and stare at the sun; perhaps a little browsing on flickr might help on that one.  Look at the real world and also go look at the colours in other peoples' works.  Make sure you look at the colours relative to each other and not just on their own.

Anything else?  I've used a dark orange for the scarf outline and changed the arms a bit, but nothing at all drastic.  The newer version is on my home computer, so I can't post it 'til later, but it is almost identical.  Thanks.

I've been a lurker here for a bit, thought I'd post something.  This is my first try for the character for the game I'm starting work on.  [sarcasm]Woo.[/sarcasm]  Now, down to business.  I've been working on him for a bit and I'm totally frazzled (perhaps even vexed) as to how to shade his body.  By body I mean jacket.  I mean, he really isn't that strange hue of green... though his skin is white so that wouldn't be all that-- I digress.  I started, as you can see, to shade it like you see.  The problem is I don't want him like that.  I don't want nice flowing folds because I want him to retain his fairly basic shape, not too much detail.  I do, however, want to give him a fair bit of texture and form, not leave him looking so flat.  I'm also rather hesitant as far as his left arm goes.  I want him to end up being a fairly animated and dynamic sprite so please keep that in mind.  Anyway, crits and suggestion are mad welcome, and that doesn't mean I'll get mad at you.

I would do a straight redo if anything.  It doesn't even really look stylized; to me it just looks wrong.  That is, of course, because the proportions, shapes etc. aren't right.

Sorry that I can't give you too much depth in my feedback but so far that looks awesome.  The line art is great.  As far as the colours go, I like the hair, but I think the other colours could... well, if I have time tomorrow morning I'll do an edit. Her left arm looks a tad long/fat to me.  I'm not sure what I'd do but as mentioned above, if I have time I'll do an edit.

A point of curiosity, why do you use MSPaint?  Why not switch to something easier, at least for the colour choosing?

Anyway, looks rad so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.

Cool.  That's pretty rad.  I think the black outline might be a little heavy/dark though.  Around the eyes(?) it looks really dark.  It contrasts with the soft, smooth white/grays and shading.
