General Discussion / Re: What makes a good plot

Wow! thanks everyone for so many really helpful posts!
I think I'm going to go with what Gil said, starting with small and then going to big because i think if i started the game off in the middle of something it would be really hard to keep the game at that pace or make it better.
And I'll start mapping out some characters, do you find games better with less or more characters?

Wow thanks that post was really good!
Do you think i should start the game off with a mundane start and then bring something in? Is it worth boring the player with the begining and risk losing their interest, or should i go with what most people do and have the action prelude thing? Or maybe just a little mysterious thing (could just be a shadow flying over or something pretty small) to catch the players attention in the slow beginning?

Draw inspiration from games like Halo which offer extraordinarily unique plot lines and characters. The more violence the better, and make sure it's easy to follow so your audience doesn't get lost.
really? I didn't find halo's plot to be all that interesting, yeah easy to follow is always important haha
ps theres gonna be one less lonely girl

So i've been working on an exploration platformer for some time and I've got pretty much everything in the engine and the only thing standing between me and finishing the game is a plot line. I've been a really big fan of the mother series' plot lines, mainly mother 3 whose ending was sad enough to make me cry haha. So i was wondering what everybody likes in a plot line and how you go about creating one?

thanks!
Yeah the game does move primarily to the right which is why i made the mountains facing that way and also to give them more of an unrealistic cartoony thing! I'm glad that came out! The pink stuff was supposed to be fog but i guess ill have to make that more obvious. Yeah i do really need to make them only infront or behind the mountains which ill do an edit of right now.
I would try some AAing but im not sure if it would go with my games look, do you have any examples of it done well?

General Discussion / Re: anyone up for some plot brainstorming?

Thanks a bunch for all these critiques and suggestions! :)
mm thats true, i was planning on letting the player piece together the backstory through what people are saying as to avoid a big cut scene explaining it.
Yeah the robots were intended to be sort of good bad enemies, like you feel bad for killing them in a shadow of the collosus sort of way, but after talking to my partner in this game we realized it wouldnt be a very fun big fight if you were sad to kill them so we're going to think of a way to change that and probably rework most of our plot if not change it completely

Yeah thats true... Ugh i hate trying to think of a plot haha I do want to keep the robots and their whole thing as I've planned some pretty big boss fights for them and the underground caves being fleshed out by them, but asides from that i can pretty much move around or even scrap the rest.

Youre right it wouldnt make sense if they just burried them even though they hadnt finished their mission thing. Do you have any idea of a reason i could use for the robots to be underground?

Yeah I'll change the part about humans being peaceful by nature, it wasn't going to be a big part of the plot because you would never return to the surface and would have very little contact with other people

I finished a few more!
any  thoughts? the hippos are going to be the allies in the game. The nose follows you and sniffs you until you kill it. The dog flies around by his tail.
I also tried an edit on the rhinos head!
