General Discussion / Re: The Official Pixelopolis Off-Topic Thread

I'll agree on the "political correctness is sometimes blown out of proportion" point.  Here's an example of overdone political correctness: at a "holiday" party at my school way back in 8th grade (I think), they had decorations representing Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and something else (I've forgotten what), but there were no traditional Chrismas decorations.  If that's not overdone political correctness, I don't know what is :-P  Also, the people I know who are most against affirmative action are black; they say that they would rather get a job, scholarship, school admittance, or whatever because they deserve it, not because they're black.  Personally, I agree with them.

Oh, and I don't know anything about curvilinear perspective ;-)

Yay poetry.  Here are a couple I wrote a while ago.  I should write more; I don't do enough creative stuff.

Sheep

The road of gold is stretched before your feet,
The selfsame road continues far behind.
The path is not so hard to walk along,
Though rather boring, offering no new sights.

Still you are sure
That o'er the hill,
Around the bend,
Far off ahead--
Will lie a change.

But as you mount the hill and round the bend,
You find that nothing different lies ahead,
Though still inside your head you keep on thinking
That somehow there must be a way to change.

And passing all the gray and silent people,
The sounds of footfalls echoing through your head,
You start to realize that this road will go
Ahead of you on to infinity.

The road before you and the road behind
Are alike in every single little way.
So you survey the edge and look far down,
Considering the jump and then the fall.

How would it be to take that step of faith?
And would it hurt to fall so very far?
The questions rush around inside your brain,
And so you shut them out and take a chance.

As you take the step,
Leaving the endless golden road,
You realize that the edge holds no fall,
But a different path, with choices all your own.

After looking back at all the people,
Still caught amid the rat-race of their lives,
You turn about and head down your own path,
The escape from the road of the herd.

A Prayer for Ideas

Oh, form in us a curious heart,
That we forevermore may raise
Ideas that so quickly dart
Forever trapped within a maze.

Ideas that we hold within,
Protected from the cruel world,
Die, never to be seen again,
Never raised, like flags unfurled.

Remind us that ideas, like we,
Need air and light and love to grow.
So we must ever set them free,
That they may flourish, for we know:

A thought inside will surely die,
But one set free finds wings to fly.

Happy birthday, Rox!  I don't have a pretty picture for you, but then again, I don't have a pretty picture for me either :-P  As a matter of fact, I don't have any pictures recently...I need to pixel more.  In other news, you're 8 days older than me; my birthday's next Wednesday and I'll be 19 as well.

Meh, I'll run again next election.  I feel that I should be a more active member before running.

No problem.  I agree with you on the answers to all of your questions; I think there are enough comments, but some of them are helpfuller than others, there are lots of activities that can be done, graphical smilies can be annoying, and Gonzo is my favorite Muppet.  Again, good luck in your campaign; you'll be getting a vote from me at least.

Considering the intense lack of interest in my campaign, I will drop out of the current election and be more active in the forum before running for this position.  Good luck to all the other candidates!

I couldn't agree more about it sucking to not have replies in one's campaign thread.  So I'll ask you some questions, and give you some comments, and hopefully spark the same kind of discussion that has propagated others' campaigns.

I know that you have been with Pixelation for quite a while; I think you joined up a couple of months before I did (which is a while ago, now that I think about it...).  In that time, I have seen you as a very mature, active member with a propensity for leadership and a helpful attitude.  You are definitely in the top tier on my list of leadership candidates.  I wish you good luck in garnering more support.

I do have a couple of questions, though:
-What is your opinion on art critiquing practices?  Do you think that current critiques are sufficient?  If not, how will you help encourage better c+c?
-What are some of your specific ideas for activities?
-How accessible are you if people want to contact you with ideas, comments, or complaints?
-What is your opinion on graphical vs text smilies?
    -Who is your favorite Muppet?

I hope your campaign is successful; you have always been one of my favorite people on the boards.  Oh, and now my campaign thread is the least active :-P

I would have to agree about the music thing.  Music is such a huge part of my life; I'm in choir, an a cappella group, and will be getting a minor in music.  Plus I play piano and compose.  I don't know what I'd do without music.  But I have to wonder: if I had never been able to appreciate music, would I miss it?  Somehow I doubt it.  But who knows?

This looks nice for what it needs to be.  However, there are a few things that could be improved.  Firstly, as others have mentioned, the lines that are straight now could be made a bit crooked to match the style of the rest.  And unless your handwriting is exactly precise, you might consider making a bit of space or overlap in the corner of the "N" and the intersection of the "4" where the separately drawn lines intersect.  A minor nitpick: the bottom of the "4" appears to draw itself; it appears while the pencil is moving away to draw the "S".  Also, since pencil lines are rarely actually black, you may want to consider making the lines a medium gray.  If you really feel like getting fancy, you can try to make the pencil change angles as it draws.

Yes, that will change.  I posted very little on Pixelation for a long while, but came out of the woodwork later and had a respectable post count when the forum died.  I've been relatively quiet here so far, but I plan to be more active if elected.  Actually, I should probably be more active even if not elected, but that's not the point of the question.  So, to sum up my ramble, yes.
