Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Fightan sprites
« on: December 15, 2009, 06:52:03 pm »
I'll try messing with the color more some time.
His boots don't go all the way to his knees. I could try to make that more clear though :M
I think the Magician's arms look fine. It should be much more clear during any animation where the arms are over the background, or any alternate color schemes where the dress isn't white.

Somehow completely missed some details on the Knight and Fencer.

Moved the Knight's leg armor up so the top section actually covers his knees, and the Fencer's coat is supposed to extend below his belt.

Edited, increased the contrast and changed the pose to what I had originally planned. Still the same palette though.

And two others

The right Magician has semi-transparent arm things on a layer above the sprite, left is the original.

This is pretty nice. I look forward to the full version.

Some bugs I found:

Dragging a color in the palette over any icons in the menu and clicking on them breaks that icon.
If you move the pointer to the palette while drawing it switches to grabbing a color in the palette, and then kinda freaks out.
With the Ctrl eyedropper, moving the mouse after clicking and before releasing makes it not select any color.
If you can, holding Ctrl-Z/Y should go through steps repeatedly instead of requiring another press for each step.
I don't know the exact circumstances but Ctrl sometimes takes focus away or makes it lag or something. Something like Ctrl-Z right after drawing something.

Keep it up

Pixel Art / Re: re-VAMP [Mainly Fire-emblem portrait sprites]

Your face sprites are always good, Vamp :o
I still don't like mug becoming the de facto term

Trying to actually make this post useful... Fee's forehead seems a little back  at the upper left due to the hair angles, Diadora's hair is a bit bland because there's too much of the lightest tone, a few have the mid-tone in the hair fairly bright so there's not much contrast with the lightest. Jerrike has really low saturation, but that seems like a stylistic choice? Titania's nose and mouth could probably stand to be moved up a pixel (leaving the line defining the lip where it is, it's too thin right now).
Not much to say, since you know what you're doing here.

I meant straight up 0,0,255, since it's easy to get to in MS Paint.
Things made on it...

I use pure blue. It gets some of the advantage of pure saturated magenta and such, but without the eye strain. I also prefer it as a color that's not likely to be use in the piece, so it's easier to not have random pixels get lost on the canvas, keeping things tidy. Making something that includes 8,8,8 on a pure black background and then moving things around can leave pixels behind. Also I just like blue.

I'm not adding any more colors. I could shuffle some around to get more use out of them if that's possible. They're separated like that to allow recoloring, though. (image below has example)
If you have an idea to get more colors for AA and still keep some degree of freedom with recolors go ahead and suggest it, but I'm not overly worried about AA.

I changed the shield a bit to make it cleaner, and made the hand more readable. Can't decide which glove color I prefer.

Neither color is completely final, the intent is to allow a number of versions without much work.

Actually trying something original instead of my usual Fire Emblem customs, so I thought I'd see what you guys think instead of just lurking.

Would be probably be 2x in a game, though I prefer 1x.
Restrictions are self-imposed, 16 colors (15 + trans) and 15-bit (31,31,31 becoming 248,248,248; I forget the term for this, uncorrected or something). Basically faux-GBA/DS
Reference

So, what do you think could be improved? :o
