Hello Eyecraft, thanks for the critique. I tried to make the tiles a little more grey:

Is it an improvement?

Jad, I am assuming your comment was sarcasm, but its hard to tell on a forum.

Updated and (I think) finished the tiles:

Here are some WIP tiles

The part in the middle is a sample part of a level made with the tiles.

Pixel Art / Retro-Style Sprites

Hey everyone, I've been pixelling since last year, but only for fun, so I'm relatively new to this. I am trying to make some game sprites with Arne's palette.

Here's the main character, seen on a black background (but he works on dark blue BGs also).

Here's the transmission screen, with a larger-sized image of the main character. I've just started doing AA so it's not as smooth as it could be, and I'm also looking for general feedback. Inspired a little by Doukutsu Monogatari, obviously.

Some tiles for the first level.

First of all, I want to say that this is a pretty good spright. Your shading and colors and shape are all great, though the animation could use improvement. I think the legs should be moved together a bit, right now they are looking a bit detached. Also, in frames 4, 5 and 7, it looks like he is bending his leg backwards, which is why in the animation itself, the frontleg is swinging around. I think you also might want to look at the other parts of the body. His arm is moving in a strange way, almost as if he is punching his stomach. I think instead of changing the angle of the forearm too much, you should change the rotation of the entire arm as he walks. Also, his hair and torso should be moving a little as he moves. There's no reason he should be breathing while idle and not while running.

Haha, I love how some of the early posters didn't get the joke.

The sprites aren't all that bad, actually. However, the tiles do not really mach up with the game. They are very blended and have very little contrast; besides that, they lack the stylism of the rest of the game. Furthermore, the grass shore tiles have a way too abrupt transition, clashing with the smoothness of the tiles. Though no element is too bad by itself, they lack many unifying characteristics, and make it hard to no where you're going with the look and feel of the game.

First I want to say, this looks really awesome. I'm really loving the HUD. :y:

But... I don't know what engine you are using, so it may be too hard, but is it possible to make a mac version?

Überwald? Like in discworld?

Anyway, I think the rounded door is much nicer; it looks more ancient. I'm thinking maybe the rocks could use some more noise, though. Quick edit to show what I mean:

For the superman guy in "I fight dragons", I think you could do with less dithering on the pants. They're a little too small to dither so much, and the pants in real life have more contrast to them. Also IMO the skin doesn't need such thick outlines. :y:
