General Discussion / Re: Introductions
« on: July 19, 2005, 08:10:42 pm »
My name is Michael Nail. I've never been all that great with introductions, but what the hell.

I've been pixeling on and off since June '03. During those times when I wasn't pixeling, I was probably absorbed by Flash, animating. My most recent excuse for not pixeling is this job I got with a lawyer. I work as a legal clerk for $6.00 per hour. Not bad for a 16-year-old. :P. I spend about 1 hour per week watching television (certain programs on C-SPAN). I spend most of my time thinking about my thoughts, actually. Trying to figure out what it is that causes me to think of certain things. Then I start getting into the ideas of whether or not I'm actually thinking, and that's no fun, so I usually stop when I get to that point.

I'm not insane, actually.

I really like the stance and viewpoint. The hand positions appear to be well-formed.

There are two glaring problems here. The first is the shading of the green areas. You only used to tones of green, and that's fine, but if you're only going to use two tones, you should probably consider using your lighter tone more often. As it is, his legs look a bit flat because of this. ]

The second is a perspective problem. This image is 3/4 overhead (I think. I can never remember the names of these things), so things on the ground should appear smaller than things a yard and a half in the air. His right boot, and the rest of his lower right leg, seems to be disproportionately large compared to his hands. 1 pixel smaller in both dimensions would probably suffice.

The lineart here is very well executed. Your cousins and immediate relatives ought to be proud of you. should be proud of you.

Yeah. I realize that. It's just that I think it ought to be the standard.  The ??? emoticon looks rediculous when viewed as plain text, and if I turn off smilies, I'll have to see ?-?-? all the time. -_-

It's no big deal, though. I can live with it.

Perhaps everyone should get five stars, cause you're all five stars special! :P

That made me shiver just now.

Anyway, this should be just fine as a pixelation until Pixelation is back. The only problem is that smilies aren't automaticly off. I'd much rather have a colon P than a  :P.

Aside from the zoom function, I don't have any big qualms. One thing bugged me a bit though. I spent three minutes looking for the memberlist. :P

They contrast with each other like hell! What's a colorful cartoon pimp doing in Castlevania?

Getting away from the question of whether or not they go together, why don't we look at the actuall art. It's easy enough to say that thay don't match. What I really want to do is talk about the environment and background a bit, but I have to adress the pimp first.

That pimp is all fine in his own right. good use of color theory. There are a few nagging problems, though. Fiest and foremost, that stace makes him look like he just had back surgery. You might want to change that so that his arms rest at his side. Unless, of course, your intention was for him to have just had back surgery.
The shape of his shirt doesn't work. It's longer at the back than it is at the front. Is that some kind of pimp thing?

I'm probably safe in assuming that the environment is bassed on Castlvania. If you look at a screenshot of any Castlvania game, you'll notice that everything is crammed with detail (except Circle of the Moon).

Here's a screen from Castlevania: Harmony of dissonance. Maybe you can use that as a refrence.

I haven't felt comfortable at a pixel forum for a long time now. Naturally, I can't wait to have a forum with Pixelation's ideals again. GMpixel's standards are a tad low for my taste. Pixcelerate sort of doesn't exist, and I really couldn't be bothered to send in an aplication thing. I kind of liked pixel joint, but it felt like a miniturized DeviantArt. I'm not saying that any of them are "bad." I just couldn't get into it.

Insert flash button? That's classy.
