It does much more than that if you follow the method process. Like I said I'll go into detail later.

I would try asking for permission to use someone's art first...

helm, i need to rip your brain out of your head and find whatever helps you with your colors and styles, turn it into an energy drink, and sell it.  basically, that edit is awsome.  added alot more realism to it

the walk seems kinda "dull" to me.  you should have a look at this tutorial for the next one you try.  and dont be affraid on the next one to make him a bit more lively, like when firing the gun add another lightsource from the flare, have the body seem a bit more segmented...  movement imo is what makes or breaks a great sprite

i'm gonna have to agree with helm (that makes twice today i have agreed with him, a record).  i dont think you could really do much more to it without possibly overdoing it

Pixel Art / Re: Im new ... hello!

well i did the whole thing in photoshop with a 1pixel pencil, and the fill bucket...

did the shading the same but i aa'ed it with a 1 pixel pencil blur ....

so i assume that thats a no-no right , using "blur"....

ya, using the pencil tool is exactly what you want to do, but not the brush, blur, opacity or any other effects.  pixel art in its truest form is each pixel placed with care by hand (although the fill tool is accepted).  the way i taught my brother that seemed to help him out is "if you dont have strict control over the pixels and the colors (ie anti-aliasing/blur), its not pixel art."

keep it up, that line art looks great

I enjoy this piece, although I have to say I strongly disagree with mixing triangle slices with something else. But that's what I'd do, and you're free to do what you want to do. The triangles for me are useful mostly for unifying the basic pixel artifact with the 8x8 character limitation. If the difference between one and the other is too clear and segmented, I start to feel they just don't work as well as they could.

thanks helm.  i do agree, this didnt turn out as well as i had hoped it would.  although i still like it, what you pointed out holds very true.  i think the styles were a bit to differnt to do what i had wanted.  i plan on doing something similiar to this in the future, and learn from my mistakes  :D
