Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: [WIP] Mountains n' villages

Thanks guys, I'll remove that well. Don't know if I can clearly render a firepit at this resolution though.

Thanks for the suggestions Facet, I will definitely add some variety to the buildings and foliage. As for what this is for, it's for the weekly Pixel Joint challenge.

Changed the hue of the farther mountains, changed one of the buildings, few more small details, I don't know how well everything reads. Still trying to think of things to add.

Currently 28 colors.

Also beginning to work on a night/dawn version on the side.

Very WIP

Yes, I see a bit of tiling in the new textures, mainly that biggest rock, new textures are looking great though. One small thing, your sky seems kinda washed out or foggy, not what I'd imagine from the heights of a mountain

Added more to the foreground, trying to rough out some detail into the village

This game sounds like fun. Looking good as well. Those latest rock textures look good but to me they don't really fit the face of a cliff on a mountain, they  look rather porous like Igneous rocks from a volcano rather than smooth granite from a mountain.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#090 - Mountains & Villages Scenery
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:20:26 pm »
Hi everyone, I'm working on this Landscape set in a small village surrounded by vast mountains. I'm really trying to convey the immense scale and distance of the mountains so I've exaggerated the atmospheric perspective.

Current color count is 23. I'd love to hear any CnC, good or bad.

Oh and the little red posts are supposed to be villagers.

WIP 2

My houses are so boring, how can I add interest to the village?

I never even considered snow and such, damn my snowless Floridian climate. I'm probably not going to worry about the roof shape. Extending the roof is something I'm going to have to do though. I didn't think the light source was confusing when I decided on it, I didn't want to worry about casting long shadows when I spammed up the scene with trees.

Which, by the way

Trees. Kind of unrefined as each were done in around an hour. The first three are revisions of the same shape, still not satisfied with what I came out with, I'm going to make another one or two alpines later.

I like the roughness of the BG tree in the first pic, overall it looks great. Only gripe is the legs of your characters are almost the same value as much of the background so they disappear. Your female character's HUD mug shot looks kind of odd how it's cut off at the forehead.

The character base is looking pretty good so far. The cabin/shack seems kinda strange, I can't really make out what it is made of but by the looks I'd say it's a log cabin, the construction throws me off. The lighting seems unnatural as well.
Here's a short edit I did to the shack, just swapped a few colors and changed the texture a tad

I might have ruined the point by making it look made of planks, I don't know.
