Wow - really really love that foliage.  :y:

Hello -

You've posted this here a few times now, and I think it's a really great idea for a game.  There's not really anything available that's fun and really game-like for learning languages, especially Chinese (besides very basic games aimed at very small children).

However... the game, as it is, is ...  totally boring, and not a useful teaching aid.  Ni Hao-ing at a heap of NPCs is just neither fun, nor educational.  :(

I think you need to do a bit of research on language teaching, and apply those techniques to a game design.  See if you can come up with a battle-system that uses similar techniques to duo-lingo for example.  And incorporate audio if you're teaching spoken Mandarin vs written Chinese.

I think you need to address this sort of thing before worrying about graphics, but I hope you continue the project, as it certainly could be great.  :y:

Great work, Ptoing!

Looks great - Very PSX-to-DC era, but feels original, super strong identity all the way through. Hope it performs well, it looks like a lot of fun.   :y:

I love that edit so much, pistachio.   :y:

Catzore, please give this sprite another go and post your results once you've had a look at those pdfs - very curious to how your work will improve.  :)

I actually prefer the bright blue as well, though there may be some room between the two, if you're set on dulling it.  Yeah, it's a little less realistic but it has a striking look I like.

kullenberg, I wouldn't suggest dithering because it's not really in-line with the style he or she is clearly going for - I was just playing around doing something a bit different.   :)

More generally, I think dithering is a bit weird... Unless you're specifically going for that look, it's kind of solving a problem that you've arbitrarily enforced on yourself, and it has a lot of drawbacks and takes extra effort and considerations. (But it can certainly be fun in a self-indulgent way).     I mean, it's kind of nice to me, in small localised clusters on this sort of sized art, but...  Very easy to make a destructive mess, especially on smaller/animated pieces without extra care.

I could totally live with it as it is (I just love clouds). :)  Daring to be 'simpler' (for want of a better word) is probably the most inspiring trait of many artists I admire.  :y:

I do love all this

This isn't C&C, was just messing around in photoshop for fun/procrastination:

Fun to push pixels around again - was thinking about Super SF2 era arcade style so allowed myself to do a little bit of dithering, which I certainly am not suggesting you do.
