That being said, I'm really digging your edit, especially the bounce lighting and that posture.


I was stuck between wanting to keep the original posture and experimenting with a slacker position until I ended with this in between.
Now my biggest concern right now is those god awful hands and feet. I'm really having trouble keeping them pretty and readable.
Again, any input is appreciated.

Longtime no post

So this was an old sketch I had lying around that I wanted to expand upon, or rather, this is when I've expanded too. Drasticly better than my sketch :p.
Now before I take this further, I want to see if you all can help me by pointing out any glaring issues you might noticed

Wow, three separate edit, I'm a little touched guys.
That aside, i feel like I'm making some progress here.

There was a reference pic I had around the start of this but tossed it after I had the pose down, I honestly have no idea where to find it again.  :lol:
Also tweaked the colors a bit for some more contrast and vibrant colors. On that note, the purpose of this color experiment was more or less too see if I still had a passable understanding of working with colors.
I'm not quite sure where I want to go with this, maybe expand it and create and entire composition, or drop it and work on something else.
Bleh, decisions.

In an attempt to get back into spriting for the umpteenth I started a little doodle that ended up being a terrible attempt at understanding colors.
Honestly I have no idea what I'm doing here, so any critique would be appreciated

Ok, here's where I'm at.


I've played with the face a bit to give her less of that goofy look previously mentioned, also started the back arm, and as you can tell, I'm still very unsure of what to do to it design wise since my old sketches here really undetailed, so how that bird-like skull stays on, is beyond me. (Probably back to the drawing board with this one)
I also toyed around with the colors and added a pair of shorts because, as pistachio pointed out, it really draws "attention" without them.  ;)

I certainly think I'm heading in he right direction with this.


Of course I'm going to try and keep the original charm it had before.

Well she's not unnamed, I just can't for the life of me remember it.
She's an old character from this thread



The green thing protruding from her back is some sort of sentient monster arm, the elbow being the "face" of it.
Obviously I haven't even touched it yet, I'm actually considering removing the arm altogether, but we'll see.
Anyways, C+C away Pixelation!

Though I'd give you my two cents.
Bare with the unfinshed edit. (and the lack of a jacket)

I noticed your work relied heavily on the outline to give Canti shape, and while this isn't the worst thing you could do, you could better use the single pixel outline to define the basic shapes of his body.
The shading itself is really just pillow shading which is considered a huge no-no. Try to define a proper light source before you even head onto the shapes themselves, and don't be afraid of having light pixels border the dark one because that's a mistake I used to make when I started.
Final thing I'll say is Canti is slouching; not necessarily a bad thing, but it really takes away from his imposing self.

I guess from here I'll just link you to link you to Helm's Magic thread which provided me with some glorious knowledge.

This started out as something for a bigger project, but I got far to encaptured trying to make sense of the pixel  clusters and getting thing to look both readable and pleasant on a 1-1 scale
Looking at it again, I need to play with the contrast since some of those colors just vanish.
