I disagree. Even a quick defensive swipe has more anticipation you know.

Hey, if you want brutal C+C this is THE place.(Not from me though :P)

The recoil is actually quite a problem, at least from my Point of view. He may as well be sliding back on ice. There's no proper movement in it, and it just feels really weak. Making the laser push him off balance a bit would help, perhaps adding more speed would help a bit as well. Maybe only making the laser a few frames then a white flash on the peak frame? Regardless, it needs a lot more strength.

Did a quick edit for you, since that's the best way I seem to get my point across. :P

Pixel Art / Re: Help with walk/idle animation for game sprite.
« on: September 05, 2009, 01:19:13 am »
The idle animation is REALLY unnatural looking. It looks as if he's putting a bunch of effort into just standing still. Not to great. Giving him a bit of a bounce would help a lot. Someone on this site made what I thought was a pretty energetic idle animation recently. In fact, here it is.

The movement flows very naturally there, and is quite pleasing to look at I must say.

Pixel Art / Re: Tree C+C

Ugh. I got around to remaking a tree in the same general style, with the critique after a while. I pixeled a little guy in the a style the tree should match, but the tree doesn't fit the bill very well.  :-\

Not to sure how to fix it either.

Here we are.

I did as you suggested, though I can't say I prefer it to my previous edit. Perhaps I did it wrong?

Thanks. And I wouldn't be surprised if it does. I love studio Studio Ghibli stuff.
Anyway, I did as you suggested, but yet, it still lacks something. Admittedly it still isn't TOTALLY complete, but I don't it's anything significant.

Here it is. Thanks for all your help so far everyone. You people are awesome at critique.
Speaking of which, where do I turn from here?

No no no, that's actually just what I was going for. Very nice.
I redid the shading just now, so before I add anything else, I want to make sure people can actually tell what it is.

I see the crazy amounts of pillow shading I had now. I think it's recognizable now, but even if it's not, it still looks much better.
Is there anything I could improve upon with it before going any further?

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] The girl has a red skirt but no hair yet
« on: August 30, 2009, 02:36:27 pm »
Right now, the biggest problem is your pallet. The sprite has around 11 colors. Not bad really, but some of the colors are just so similar, that some could just stand to be replaced, or have their color changed slightly. I took a shot at it. The new one has around 8 colors.

It looks very much the same, but has quite a few less colors. I don't know if you were aiming for color conservation, but it's a good thing to keep in mind.
I also added some highlights to the hair and eyes. When working with brown hair, a shade of skin color quite often works very well for highlights too. There are also a few other things, but I'm running really short on time, so I'll let the edit speak for itself. Hope this helps!

It was a picture reinterpreted from scratch. I shrunk some parts of it down to look at the anti-aliasing, but that's all.
