It's for nothing more than practicing my pixel art skills.

Pixel Art / [WIP]Two Heads

I rarely ever make larger pixel art, so as a result, the quality suffers. However, I'm somewhat happy with how this new project is turning out, but I do feel that I could use some guidance on it.

To the right is the pallete I used. Any critique on it, or should I consider it finished?

Thanks

It might work out if you chipped away at the grid a bit by adding some more tiles that make the square look less like a square and more like a random shape.
If that makes any sense.

The perspective seems a bit off to me. While I feel like I'm looking at the pillars straight on, the floor tilings seem to be viewed from above. It's very bothersome.

Yeah. That's totally cheating (As I consider it anyway). Besides why would you want to do it?

It doesn't look like Pixel Art, it's poorly done, you don't improve from it
Heck, it doesn't even look all that fantastic

Just don't do it.

Pixel Art / [Wip] Rpg Chr 3 Rotations C+C
« on: November 04, 2009, 01:01:09 am »
I've been working on some RPG style sprites recently, and I've come to a bit of a dead end (used for lack of a better word).

Based off this quick concept doodle: http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2199/quickchr.png

I have a few problems. One, I plan to have the backgrounds in a typical semi-top down point of view. However, while I like the first version more, it doesn't have much/any perspective.

My second problem lies in the rotations. The sprites are all quite different, and don't seem to fit in too well with all of the others. I've yet to identify why this is though. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also having a bit of a problem creating a smooth outline for the characters. The diagonal one in both of the versions looks the best in those terms, but once again I'm having trouble transferring this quality to the others.

These are just the main problems, but any other sort of critique would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@Shrike I'm pretty sure Hitmonlee only kicks.

As a general rule, when martial artists kick, their hips rotate along with their legs to give the attack more force. Be very careful when creating martial art animations, for in every move, there is a lot of detail.

The tiling is most certainly very nice, but the contrast between the BG and the characters needs a lot of work.

The grass also is way too busy for my eyes to enjoy looking at. I know a lot of people like to sprite grass that way, but I never found it particularly attractive. That being said though, it may be just another contrast issue.

Decided I'd try my hand at making a larger pixel art character. I've done what I could, but now I'd like some assistance refining it. C+C of course. Thanks.
