Pixel Art / Re: Mario-inspired Sprites

First of all, like shrub said, gradient shading is a taboo ;o
Also you need waaaaay more contrast there and you need to get rid of those interior outlines, they make your rather small sprite look cluttered.
To show you what I mean I made a quick edit of one of the goombas:
->
And yeah I also changed the stance a bit.
Edit:
added an improved version, with more unified palette. Try to unify your palettes btw :p

I remember when I was at #pixelation some month ago, there were only like 7 people, good to see the channel grew a bit. I'm re-adding sorcery to my server list now ;D

I see...
You mean like this?

@snakesqzns
The red scarf ain't working because the colour blends with the skin ;[ Originally the scarf was red, that's how I found out.
Also I'll think about the nose and cheeks, I even thought about a mouth.

EDIT:
Linx helped me with hair on IRC, thank you Linx! :P

EDIT2:
Another edit lol this time atnas helped me, thank you very much it was enormously helpful!

Well I tried making the scarf more distinguishable and made some other tiny tweaks...

I can't put my finger on the hair though D:

I think I misused the word palette, because I didn't mean premade palette but the sprite's own palette you know? ;o

So uhh I found this sprite I made a while ago and noticed that I didn't like the palette at all, I changed it and got this

Then I wanted to try out something different and got this:

So, what do you think? Do you have any advice for the palettes? And which one do you like the most?

I can hardly see any change... He probably meant there's too much contrast with the black lines?
Well uh I changed the contrast only a bit and for some sprites (first and last one) I didn't change it at all because I thought they'd have the right amount of contrast.
Also, idk about the outlines, I tried changing the contrast but I like the way it is :x
Hope it doesn't sound like I'm blatantly disagreeing to your post ;[
