Pixel Art / Re: Help with Hair Movement and shading
« on: December 18, 2017, 03:03:09 pm »
I think one problem is the two segments of hair at the front are moving too much and/or moving as one piece. They seem like separate parts of the rest of the hair. Maybe make the top of those segments move with the head and give only the bottom tips the bounce.

I finished most of the main cast. And updated the lead character. I google image searched "Old Sea Captain" and it turns out it's a very washed out and drab looking occupation to dress for. I am worried his striped shirt will be too much, but either way I'm happier with it than what I had before.

The main one I am unhappy with now is the fellow in the red shirt with his arms crossed. It barely looks like his arms are crossed.

It's also weird how some of the characters look better outlined and some don't.

Yeah smoothing out the twitchy leg made a big difference. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Thanks! I think that is an improvement. It got really complex but there is at least more life to the character now.

I updated the hair and cut the frames down as well.

Pixel Art / Diver Idle Animation

Idle animation for a video game character. 17 frames seems excessive, but I couldn't get the hair to look right with less. What do you think?

For what it's worth this is the diving version of the red head in this post https://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=24197.0

Pixel Art / Re: Help with... Proportions I guess? (Critique/Feedback)

Well I just started so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

The two things that stand out to me are I'm not sure what is going on with the third guy's design on his shirt. My brain wants it to follow the contours of his body more.

And the first two it seems like their hair is a bit too tall for the angle it seems like we're looking at them at. But I think the third guy looks right.

Love the sock texture though.

Just two quick thoughts.

1. The figure's hair doesn't contrast much with the building. So it gets washed out a bit

2. You could probably add a light outline on some of the architecture so they are a bit more defined and it's more immediately apparent what the structure is doing as far as towers, corners, and that sort of thing.

Pixel Art / Pixel art Characters for Game

First and 3rd attempt at pixel art. The redhead on the right was my first. I was pretty happy. But she was just an NPC. The man in gray coat is the main character and I was not as happy. My first attempt he somehow looked too young, so in my second attempt I added a beard but I'm still not thrilled. I share the NPC because I'd like to have them match stylistically. But I wouldn't mind hearing a critique of her too.

For what it's worth the main character is and old sea captain of a boat. Dialog will be with higher resolution faces. These sprites are for walking around town. So while I don't need a bunch of detail, I still think there could be more to give this low resolution sprite some character.

Also for what it's worth this is likely the first frame of his idle animation.
