I'm not satisfied with the Gaibon either, so I edited it:

You may note that I upped the contrast to separate the sprite into parts that read a bit better.
Also, for the werewolf: using the same area of pixels but with differently arranged tiles (also cheating by using a reduced sprite as a base), I have this:

Chessmaster (SNES) sprite.
Quite an interesting study for volumes. I toned down the shading because the original was an overdone mess. I would say the trickiest was the neck, as it has a slight curve in it.

Thanks, Mathias! This was my reference:

I did this in MyPaint, using the Pastel/Pastel1, the Wet/Round, the Paint+BL/Round BL, the Paint/Round, the Wet/R-S Blend, and INKBRUSH brushes.
I'd say it took me 15-20 hours, at a guess.

Much as pixel art is raster, I see vector as a very viable solution to replicating the blockiness and pixel clusters: a good example is Mrmo Tarius's work, in which I see the pixel and vector work converging.
If we're not staying in the digital realm, various printing methods have some affinities with pixel art technique, much like Cure's experiments.

There are bound to be more mediums!

I like the attention to detail in this, and the contrasts are working well!  :D
Something about this bugs me though, but I can't put my finger on it... the banana and the pepper feel flat for some reason?
