Pixel Art / Re: Challenge- Abstract
« on: October 08, 2008, 04:59:06 pm »
i decided to not put it into the challenge, since it's not abstract xD

Anyway, i took your advice, and i think i made it non- pillowshaded..

Yeah, in my environmental science class i was doodling, and i somewhat drew a picture of a stickman pointing into the hills. I then thought it would be a good idea to use it as my piece for the challenge. The creature, is meant to represent acceptance.

so far..

Any comments and critques, on colours, shading etc would be appreciated ;D

Pixel Art / Re: Main Character help
« on: October 07, 2008, 08:31:48 pm »
Well, first for character.. i'd look at your pose which you've put him in. think about what he's going to do. Right now, he looks quite.. bent knees.

And then, the overall expression will become clear once you figured out what the character will do. You can then put that into his stance or whatever, for some style.

Pixel Art / Re: Noob's biggest problem shading
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:42:32 pm »
With that crab, i think you've shaded with in mind that the futher from the light source, the darker is gets in a linear (or quite close) line..

This makes it feel, that it's flat.. Also the pallete is horrible, there isn't enough Contrast (search if need be), and the lightest colour is huge in Saturation (again search if needed).

Try, and think how the light would affect by shape, by looking at it more as a shape than art. this will help you decide how light would act on the shape

Yep, for the proportion challenge..

I'm kind of stuck, now.. not 100% happy on the whale so some pointers would be appreciated.

Well, i'd personally make his stance better by adding a seat/stall on his right (our left) left.

Then he could, put his foot onto it :P

Pixel Art / Re: My sprites for my platform game

I'm also a newb in animation  :D

Anyway, With the jumping, it's quite fluent, but if it was me.. i'd add a bit of spice to the Jump..

Maybe, make his head get bigger, width way like it's being squashed.. and i'm not that fond on the Eyes changing, kind of breaks the flow.

Well, if you're doing it for NDS i'd suggest more colours put to use.

And, to see if the walking animation looks ok, i'd add a line underneath that has gaps in different places in each frame. This way, you can see if it looks like he's moving.

Did this quickly, just to show you what i meant.
