Pixel Art / Futaba - Persona 5
« on: September 09, 2017, 04:09:44 pm »
Hey guys, i've been messing around trying to do some things i don't usually do.

I've made a fanart of Futaba, a Persona 5 Character.

Things I am trying here:
-Trying to reach black on most tones and make it have a comic book like style.
-I've tried to use a bit of AA(I am not used to it so any tips would be nice)
-Tried to suggest where materials change when going to black(like in the T-shirt/Skirt transition and jacket/hair)
-The usual trying to figure colors out(Do you guys have any book/links recomendations on the subject?)
-Tried to use AA to avoid banding

I've put a ruler behind to measure pixel height for scale.

No problem Durrahan, I am glad that I could help.

I look forward to see more of your art around here, you have a great grasp on the fundamentals.

It was nice to see your process, from ref to sketch. That's interesting, my suggestion was really pretty similar to your original draft. Haha!

Do work with art or it is a hobby?

Also, let me know if you decide to make a gallery somewhere.

Hello Durrahan!

First let me tell you, your pixelart is really good.

You've chosen great colors and your AA is great, i usually don't like AA and seldom use it but I'll probably try using your style in the future.
You hue shifted colors and that mouth you drew is great, do you have any online place where I can find more of your art?

Now for the things I think you could work on:
Most problems i found were due to lack of symmetry and some anatomy mistakes, they are more slip ups than mistakes.
Try to imagine your forms like a 3D figure to measure the height of the facial features.
You also had a pretty strong tangent in the chin(it was connecting the chin to your hairline) this kind of thing makes you lose a lt of depth.

Here are my notes on your original:

And here's how i would change it:

Hope this helps you a bit.

Pixel Art / Gunnm - Gally and Zapan Scene
« on: September 04, 2017, 02:47:48 pm »
This is my first pixel art post here.

Hello guys, if you can give me some feedback on how to make better pixelart.
I have a specially hard time choosing colors, so i've colorpicked some from the character from the anime and altered them a bit to fit the image.

Since this is a common problem even on my non pixelart artwork it's been haunting me for quite some time.
I've been struggling with colors for years, and still can't understand them.

I've animated it just a bit to make a scene and tell a bit of the story.
The scene is from the manga Gunnm. My favorite manga ever.

Things i would make different looking at it now:
-I made some noise in the wall behind her using noise, it would be way better if i did it by hand.
-The outline in the front of the coat bugs me.

Hey Kizu, I like your idea. I find it really nice when we have unusual characters in mundane situations.

This is my fist critique here so I hope it helps:
Let me tell things I think you have going for you:

-I really like the structure of the standing character.
-You are shifting hue a bit between each color value.
-You managed to keep the focus on the sleeping witch, that blue on the hat is well placed.

Here are some things that i would've done in a different way.

Hope it helps

Hello everyone! First post here.

My name is Eduardo and I've always loved games.
I've worked in advertisement for years and the work sucked so bad(And the sleep you get is so little) that I quit and started making games.
I've been making pixelart for about 3 years now and I am quite fond of it.
I am also the programmer of the team so unfortunately I can't put all my time in pixelart but i've been trying to improve. And i hope i can get some feedback here, i've found some amazing improvement from people in the foruns and i hope i can join the improvement club. Heheh!

Hope we can exchange some nice info. Never been part of a pixel art forum before.

Anyway that's my summary, hope to see you around.
