Pixel Art / Re: zabord bird

thanks guys.  the thing with the green i chose is that it doesn't look bright enough.  i even adjusted my monitor but then everything was very high contrast.  i did remove that heap of a shadow and add some texture to try and add form.  dunno how well this works.  i may be overworking this whole piece :[

thanks souly :]

i found different ways of adding texture to him (the bottom two) and still have a few edits to do as suggested by punaji members.  i like the way you did the texture, but i don't want it all around.  it almost defeats the simplicity and just adds a lot of information to the sprite.  as for the legs, i wanted him to roll, something like loco roco, but i could see him wobbling too.

i modified the eyes (along with some other things) from the original drawing to purposely be like that.  i didn't like how when i spread his eyes apart he looked real stupid, i mean in terms of personality.

still working on it...tried some AA on the top right

oi!

i've not posted here in a while, but that's also 'cause i haven't pixeled in a while.  in any case, i started pixeling this character off a sketch i did recently.  here's my progress so far.

ignore the two colors above the bird.  i only used the bottom one anyway.
he's meant to be viewed at 2x:

(zoomed for the firefox users)

i wanted him to look more like the sketch but started moving away from it, as you can see.  no legs.

i'd absolutely love some crits.  i took too long picking the colors. :[

try lessening the frames where the knees shoot upward.  it would seem much more suitable for a ninja to run that way.  i wish i could show you an example, but i don't have the tools.

pirate game i'm starting.  c&c por favor.

i played around with colors a lot as you can see.  mostly having trouble making shiny coins (those yellow plastic dixie plates.)  the sprite isn't always going to be naked, but i want him to work that way.  i'm probably going to scrap those tiny ones and just focus on the larger sprites.  i think i'm getting a little better using colors, but help is still very appreciated.

thanks

Thanks guys, and big thanks for the crits Khris.  I'll have an edit up soon.  I see the balance issue now, it's just that the tail threw me off a bit.  I'm going to keep him less muscular than your edit, but I see the points you were attempting to make.  Also, for now griffy, the shading is just being used as a guideline.  I'm going to detail it a bit more.

Grazie :]

don't know where to go with skin tones.  i havent pixeled in a while, so the techniques are lost...or they were never there to begin with.

oh and he'll be holding a lantern which totally changes the lightsource i initially had in mind.

@Joseph - Yeah, I understand what you mean now.  Sorry, I completely skipped over your suggestion.  The shirt is looking awesome, so I may consider changing what was meant to be more of a poncho, into a leather jacket.  Something about it, though, changes the overall style, so the head no longer seems to fit with the rest of the piece.  Anyway, I'll definitely have a revision up tomorrow morning, as it's getting really later right now.

@Akzidenz - I just noticed the ninja mask you mentioned.  To me, it initially looked like the hair (and that's obviously because I wanted it to be a part of the hair) but from a different perspective...

Also, there are no palette restrictions; this is just a personal piece i'm thinking of creating a sprite sheet for.  in fact, I'm thinking of scrapping the vespa idea, and go for something completely different.  I couldn't think of many ways to use a vespa throughout the whole game.

@BOB - Damn, that's exactly what I've been wanting to do.  Not too fond of the hair, but it doesn't look bad either.  There are so many ways to go with this piece now.

as i said, I'll get on some edits done tomorrow.  Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Looks great!  I thought it would be cool to see bruce walk in his fighting stance, so he's sort of shifting forward with each step, ready to fight.  it would seem like an odd transition during a game for him to instantly be in his fighting stance after walking like that.  it's still an awesome animation, nonetheless.  I wouldn't mind it either way, as well.

Goodluck with it.
