Pixel Art / Re: Pixel cat for my game
« on: November 13, 2017, 10:48:14 pm »
As for the shape I think it's quite good but the hind legs look a bit thin for me. But I don't understand why did you decide to draw it in 4x4px? Or did you just zoom it for convenience? (Btw you forgot to add [img] to you picture address - if you do it, there will be no need in zooming - the forum can zoom the inserted picture by clicking on it)
For the shadows and lights - you should first think about the light source - is it located straight up above the cat? There is a cool topic about drawing a fox on this forum - you should check it out: https://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=19686.0 - it can be helpful for you  :)

Pixel Art / Re: Should I go with 1x1 or 2x2 pixels. What do you think?

I divide a leg into three parts - thigh, shin and foot, - and for each frame I just rotate every part to the correct position. First I do it for one leg (which is at the front) and then I just copy it for the second (back) leg and make it a bit darker then the front leg. (The same goes for arms).

Also I think your posture doesn't look stable enough, it looks like he is going to fall back, I would move the upper part of the body a bit to the right and tilt it a bit so he wouldn't look so straight, and if you say that he is supposed to be tired, maybe his head should look down?
I took one of the frames and made some rough changes here:

So the main point - don't be afraid to bend his knees more ;) And don't forget to rotate foots and hands accordingly to the position of the legs and arms. Now his hands remain the same on all frames, try to rotate it

Because you use an incorrect address. You should right-click on the image and select 'Copy image address' and use it.
So your image address here is https://i.imgur.com/VeQleSs.gif

But what about your previous topic? You should try to fix your first piece according to the comments given to you and then I believe you will be able to fix some of mistakes in this animation as well. (And by the way they told you how to insert an image into your message)

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP][CC] Red striped cat

Soooo, I added a bit contrast to my ginger cat (by the way his name is Steve).

AND
I created a friend for him :) Please welcome little blue-eyed Sphynx Nora.
Unfortunately I saved only two pics of her, kinda "before/after"

I'm concerned about her tail in 1 pixel wide - how bad is it to leave it as is?
All other comments and any advice are very very welcome!

changed the darkest color a bit and changed the color of eyes: (and tried another way of making the cat look fatter)

Also maybe the colors of the chest/belly should be changed like that?

Your colour contrast is very low, and it looks more like a tabby cat, than a ginger cat. Also try reducing the single pixel noise in your cat. The shape of the cat is also pretty weird, try looking at an actual cat or something.
I was trying to avoid straight lines while was drawing the stripes that's where single pixels came from.
But what's exactly wrong with its shape? I've seen lots of cats in my life you know  Do yo mean these back legs? I thought it would add some weight to the cat  :)
I did my best to follow all of your advice, does it look any better now?

Trying to work on a fat red striped cat, here are some steps of my progress:

Doesn't it look too overloaded with all these stripes?

Pixel Art / Re: [CC] Window in brick house

Shipley, you're not really adding anything in this critique section. Healthy commentary is a way for people to improve their art.

Also, just wanted to pitch in and say that in brick houses, the top of the lintel doesn't necessarily always have a different brick arrangement. Also, sometimes a concrete beam is used above it, so there's possibilities.

Also, it seems weird that your bricks are either a light or dark variant of the exact same brick, try adding some more different versions of (possibly random) textures.

Thanks for your comments, I completely agree about bricks texture, will add a couple of different versions later :)

Pixel Art / Re: Skeleton using pico-8

The proportions are not realistic. I drew a skeleton some time ago using this tutorial, maybe it'll be helpful for you

Talking about proportions, you can use this picture as a reference, for example:
