Pixel Art / Re: Game Palette, need opinions
« on: August 27, 2017, 07:31:31 pm »

Man o man does this remind of class
I never thought of that idea, of thinking of the application of the palette before you sprite. I do in painting, but never pixel art for some reason...
Main reason why everything is cool to fit with the theme of the art assets I'm going to make for the game. But I won't know till I actually apply it like you said.
I'ma take a mental break and watch some anime and come back tomorrow prepared to make some assets out of this palette
Thanks for everything eishiya. I can't wait to gain more of your knowledge : )

"Your blue, teal, and orange ramps are very dull, with very little hue-shifting". -Alright I'll look into that
"You have no dark colours. Aside from the dark blue, all your ramps end at the midtone" -I see, but would you consider the brown also be dark or a midtone
"You have no very light colours. Even your "yellows" are pretty dark."- Ohhh. Okay I see what you mean on that one

Thank you for taking your time to dig and explain, looking at it a far your points all make sense. I'm just wondering how could I "unified" this palette while I fix the errors that you pointed out
Thanks again!

Pixel Art / [WIP][CC] Armor
« on: July 07, 2017, 04:30:15 pm »
Hi everybody, I been trying to get used to colour and how it works and my palette making skills are not so good currently, so I went and used the GB Palette and played with the 4colours that it has to offer and created this:

with myself finishing that, I wanted to challenge myself and create a large scaled version of it. but I created a base for it before I tackled it:

Then I attempted to create the large version of the work, keeping in mind that it would have to keep in mine of details now of the armor and figure and made this:

which stumped me, is it the lack of colours that the GB palette has to offer to make the fine details on the armor. and creating the legs were killer as I tried to follow a light source I picked and looks like pillow shading..

Thank you.

There's a "pixel perfect" checkbox on the top of the interface when you have certain tools equipped. As for the piece, it's kind of small to really judge if you've gotten the ideas down or not.
Some of the colors are wayyyyy too close (notably along the left edge of the cloak) and you might do better to focus on better contrast

It was my bad for doing it to small(32x32), with some of the colours being to close was a tough one for me as the peice is small, but i'll keep that in mind, for contrast that was a amazing suggestion as it was feeling dull with the same red hues, so I used cool/warm colours to show contrast in it and it helped create form!

Hey guys, another round of practice(fun), I tried to focus more on shading and AA in this one and would love some insight!

and if any of you guys use Aseprite, how can you make it so the line doesn't add more pixels when you filling it in with the pencil tool

Thanks!

Try to alias the black lines some! Look at how Mario Super Star Saga does its pixelwork, I think that'd be a good study for the style you seem to have going here!

Thanks for the reply meat, i'll take a look at that style and take a crack at AA the black lines, do you know any other good games to study pixel art off of?

Doing some general practice with pixel art and I mustered up the guts to do something out of my comfort range

and I created this toy shovel, I'm just confused with it. Maybe it could be the shine with the plastic.

Thanks in advance!
