Pixel Art / Re: Anatomy?
« on: November 09, 2006, 01:03:11 pm »
Hmm. I coulda' sworn that I read some study on the net about the number of abs in the human body. I remember reading particular cases where some people were genetically predisposed to have more abs underneath the layer of fat in their belly, mainly cause I was interested in that part of the anatomy at that time. Must have been false statements I guess. But at the moment, my vigorous searching of google, and yahoo has proven nothing. So I guess if I have no proof, there is no validity in my original post. No need for the executioner, I suppose.
As for the art itself, the pose looks mighty strange, but that shouldn't matter really. In fact the only issue I'm having is that if the doodle is a "he", than he has some womanly hips going on. Also he's looking a little top heavy. His legs, especially from the knees down, seem smaller than usual. Maybe in a cartoony way this could probably pass, but I need to see more where this is going in order to crit a bit more.
   Sorry about the confusion though...

Well if I remember correctly, there is no set amount of abs every person can have. I believe it depends on genetics. Certainly, there is no such thing as a person with a set of 20 abs, but a person with 4-5 set of abs or some even reporting 7-8 sets, is actually accurate. Not very likely, but possible. And in my opinion, Ryumaru gave a valuable crit to the original piece posted in the thread.

Miles away, and deep in the ocean depths, lies the dreaded Great Crimson Jelly Squid.

I'm cookin' something up for this as we speak, and let me just say: it's taking forever. So it might be a while before I submit it. My question is there a deadline to send these things in, or is it a do on your own terms-majigger?  ???

@VictorR: I believe it's a dog howling at the moon, or night sky, with the city set in the background..I'm guessing it's supposed to mean something about how loose New York deals with waste management(just messin')....other than that, you could possibly try reading the piece, as it says what it is underneath the dog...He also practically describes it in his post...I guess before you start coloring it, you might wanna fix his front leg..The longness reminds of "Hank the Cowdog" type dog anatomy...

In terms of color, I was thinking more along the lines of...

The bird in the left is your version, except I decided to remove the AAing where his right arm was creating that shadow, as it looked a little strange(forgot to mention it in the last crit). Also, your green version of the bird looked great, except the strange reddish hue in the piece is really throwing it off atm. Oh, and sorry if I'm taking this editing a little too far. I'm also learning about as much as you are in this subject of choosing colors, so maybe I'll benefit from this piece also!...Great job...

Pixel Art / I R tHe RoBoT King!

I was bored today, and  began to doodle. Pretty soon, this robot came out. I call it "I R The Robot King"...
***(deleted)***

Seriously though, I rushed through it pretty fast mainly for a reason. I tend to notice that my pieces are ok, but most comments I recieve are about the usage or amount of color used, and how they tend to seem sloppy or unfinished. Now I understand this thing looks like crap, but what my main concern is am I using a small pallete(this one has 6, including the black) to it's best advantage, or am I still retaining my sloppyiness. I really wanna' get this color usage thing down, and refine my work with smaller sprites or pieces..If not, then I could settle for a normal crit on any part of the piece....So shoot away folks! :)

Heh, boobage. It looks much better now, and I like the beak job's dithering. I wish you could use another background color, or transparency to replace the bright pink color he's standing against. My eyes, the pain!!...Great improvement, though...

Sorry, I'm real crappy at describing what I see. what I meant was the line on his chest that seems to combine both breasts together. If you don't mind, here's an edit to show what craziness I've been talking about:

I had to do it quick, mainly cause I'm fixing to take off to work in a little bit. I just edited the chest region, and tried to make the dither pattern in the "thigh" region a little cleaner ( I couldn't find a proper way to do it, though...). I also gave the beak a little more shine to it to better define the curve, as I did to the his legs and arms...The top edit is the version with the beak casting the shadow on his chest, and the bottom edit is without the beak shadow on the chest to show what I was talking about in the breast region...But basically, thats what I trying to get across. Again, I may be misinterpereting the piece, so I apologize if this isn't the type of criticism you were expecting...
Still can't wait to see it colored though!
