does anyone know corel painter very well? I'm painting using pure black but on the canvas it's not pure black. it ends up reading about 28,28,28 even though painter says 0,0,0. but when i save as JPG it ends up as pure black. why does it look lighter on canvas?

the ribbon looks nice, but it's not a very logical place for a ribbon to be. iit doesn't make sense and it overpowers the scythe, I'm afraid. try making the pole of the scythe more intricate. for example: http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/03/07/w_lili_scythe.jpg

actually, even just a change in the shape of the pole would make it more interesting.

tocky's edit is a good idea - add more interesting colors and a bigger highlight. jello's pretty reflective  :y:
your outline also needs to be thicker and use more AA inwards, as tocky said

the other problem is that it's halfway between mine and his shapewise - it's shaped like a cube on the outside, but it isn't shaded likewise on the inside. the inside just conveys a blob. so, you need to make up your mind on that. either make it more round in shape, or add edges.
