there's a consistent trend that Anime/Porn/Politics tend to break communities into low-effort posting content farms. It's not that they're the cause of it but simply that they're common features of communities such as DeviantArt, Tumblr, etc. I am sure this correlation is not lost on everyone

Current Progress:



Still workin on the brick wall, modified the housing and extended its length, attempting to make progress on the marshland water and desert sands tileset. [C+C] Any advice, tips or contributions are appreciated, thanks


[Edit:] @eishiya -- still workin on the windmill's body, will add roofing soon as possible. there is a vague sense of scale, but not exact scaling. just kinda wanted to make the scenery and enemies loom over the player character abit.

the walkways are an issue, adding too much detail obscures the player character but leaving the tiles with alot of whites either creates a distraction or becomes disruptive to the scenery. added more volume to the house, and tried to give the roof better lighting but still needs to be detailed. idk what to do about a door  as i am sorta disappointed with the previous variations.

Hopefully this clears things up abit :)

Critiques:

-w/e the purple and metal loop in the foreground is, it's unreadable and hard to interpret
-the male protagonist's hat is a bit rounded
*if it's a medieval helmet with chain mail underneath, it needs better indications
*if it's a Victorian era (?) bloodborne/hellsing style, the hat needs a wider brim
-the male protagonist's front leg is also broken

the sword and female look quite nice far as i can tell. but much of the other objects such as the cave background still looks very rough in draft so it's hard to give much more thoughts on it

Don't know if this is horrible or not
Uses 08x12 sprites with a 16x16 tileset for the most part
Features a Totodile vs Pikachu, with a Magnemite close to the river



Considering a NES style instead, as idk if that would be more original
Also don't know if the mockup exceeds NES hardware limitations, as never encountered one

Your use of perspective is great in my opinion, and the sprites/people/animals are fine

But one point of criticism to share would be the trees and landmarks
Simple shading will not do without strong contrast to outline leaves in the trees or ridged rocks in the mountains
I'll lookover it, see what I can do during free time then post when there's sufficient updates
For now work on those points of critique and adding definition to your rivers and land then we'll compare our updates

Fair warning: artists here tend to avoid minimalist topics such as these
Possibly from it being both time consuming and frustratingly limited, even more so with color restrictions
But then again so is most pixelart, so who knows

However there are certain projects to pull advice/ideas from
These use similar miniature tilesets as found in the submission







Older Final Fantasy games also had miniatures on their world maps
