General Discussion / Re: Pixel programs for mac
« on: June 30, 2009, 01:36:02 pm »
I like GrafX2 too. It did run under DOSbox very well, until the developement on it started again, and you did not need DOSbox for the last DOS version, that came out.

Well, if you want animation too, you can try Deluxe Paint Animation or VGApaint too, running them in DOSbox, which is, you guessed right, a DOS Emulator. If you want the Frames to be a GIF Animation or something like that, then you - sadly - have to export the individual Frames as PCX or such, and import them into theGIMP as layers and save it as a GIF Animation - maybe you need to tweak the frame timing after that.

@tocky:

you have Boris Vallejo on your list, but not Luis Royo? Why?

Here is his Website: http://www.luisroyo.com/

And yes, according to Wikipedia, he is a Fantasy Artist too. (Even if you can't believe everything that's written at Wikipedia, but that's too offtopic)

Pixel Art / Re: First platformer pixel attempt

Hey, your stuff really looks good - better then my stuff  :) . No (new) critique at this point.

What i want to mention is, that, before the "new" GrafX2 was startet to ressurect and developed again, i had to try GrafX2 for DOS with DOSbox on my Linux PC too. (Never owned DPaint, too bad) .

So, if you need a nice PixelArt Program even for your PPC-Mac, you really should try the "new" GrafX2, which can be found at:

http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/

Supported platforms

Grafx2 is working on the following machines :

    * Amiga OS 3.x 68k (.lha)
    * Amiga OS 4 PowerPC (.lha)
    * AROS (.zip)
    * BeOS (.zip)
    * DOS (Windows version, with the HX Extender)
    * FreeBSD (.tgz)
    * Haiku (.zip)
    * Linux (.tgz)
    * Mac OS X (both ppc and x86) (.zip)
    * MorphOS (.zip)
    * Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP (.zip) (.exe)

Heheh, well okay, i hope you like the program - if not, i can totally understand, why you use DOSbox and your fav. PixelArt Program (DPaint) :) .

EDIT: Well, seems that DPaint is now free for download - i tried it and it's fun -> http://www.seele07.de/bilder/sonstige/dpaint_screenshot00.png

aa means AntiAliasing. It's a technique to trick the eye with "blurring" the image a bit, so that it does not have this "hard edges" at contours  :)

it's a good thing, that you created the "open wall" and details like that  ;D, but the person in the window looks like an image and not like a "person in the window" - is it supposed to be like that?  ???

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: Generic 16 color palette
« on: January 08, 2008, 06:14:44 am »
Hello,

on page 2 of this thread, there was a color ramp and a greyscale version of it - now is my question:
how do i make such a greyscale version out of the VGA16colourpalette?
the reason why i want to have that, is, that i want to know how to use the VGA16colour-map/-palette to design some pixelart like the good old ones did (yeah, it will be hard for me, but i'll try) . I dunno really how to explain that in english... you can use, lets say, a bright yellow, a bright blue and a white as shades of grey, if you like, and that is what i want to do with the VGA16colorpalette  :)

Greetings,
Ingo
