Challenges & Activities / Re: Mockup Frenzy #8: Megaman!

I really like Tobe's, they have a nice restyle but look more reminiscent of the neogeo pocket for some reason.

I still think Megaman belonged on the master system, it would've looked alot nicer and we could've had it on gamegear too :D

I have a feeling I remember both being animated, doesn't that make a diffrence?  I can't remember if you could have animated BG tiles or not..

General Discussion / Re: Megaman 9 with 8-bit graphics

Read this guys   -   it clears up alot about design issues, namely why it's looking alot like Megaman 2, and goes on to explain about the optional glitches in game (flickering + slowdown etc)

very interesting:

Glad to hear it - if you need any help starting it off I'm more than happy to assist.

I loved the cinematendo topic and working within those restrictions, so I was happy to read that even the developers are adhering to strict hardware limitations like flicker and slowdown

I had a pixelling app on my psp but it was cumbersome to use with a d-pad.

DS represents the best opportunity with some great programs already available, the best stylus interface around and a whole host of other apps that could be used in conjunction.  Plus it plays games for research reasons  :D

An iPhone or iPod Touch could be worth looking into, but the accuracy of the stylus isn't as spot on as the DS, however with itunes and the SDK avaiable it may represent an easier coding process and distribution.  Heck, you could even charge for it if it was good enough  :y:

Finally, I have a touch screen phone (sonyE w990i or some other) which is great for java-based apps, but I think Java is the wrong route to go down because it's slow, lags, is generally annoying - but it's easy to code for and reaches a massive range of appliances.

I'd be tempted to suggest a flash-based app.  Can be run on pretty much anything (especially with flash light).
Having said that I find Flash is great for vector based uses but pixels can be a different case, and on top of that it has a nasty cheap, tacky look to it which has always put me off spending any time learning it.

So, my choice would definitely be = DS

This is an awesome idea - would it help if I gathered some resource material like enemies, start screens and sprite frames?

I'm sure not going to go posting stuff up as it won't go down well, but I have a hell of a load of megaman stuff on my computer, plus there's a whole site dedicate to the art used in the games:

I was actually going to try and produce some more examples for the cinematendo challenge so this will ease me in nicely  :y:

same here - absolutely awesome!!!

I would design my own robot but it's hard enough for me to pixel an existing one, plus I like Nintendo stuff, so I hope it's not a massive problem.

I really like your tile, Vertigo - I'm trying to decide if the legs could do with some shading or not..
I like how the definition on the rockface looks kind've cel-shaded.  I personally find it hard to dither on anything this small.

Okay I'm hoping people recognise this fellow  ;D -  I'm extremely glad to see they put him in SSBB but they changed the look of him slightly so I've kept to the original.

This took me a long time to get the perspective ok, but I'm happy so far to put it up as a WIP.  I need help though.  I've got an arm to add in but I don't want to overlap onto the next tile, even if it was allowed it's unfair.  Gotta do some blending on the tile itself into the surrounding tiles of course.

I was thinking of switching the colours to the NES version of ROB robot - but the grey backdrop doesn't help at all.  :'(

How can I make this better (without completely changing it)?

I sincerely apologise that I haven't posted a WIP for    ---   7   ---   yet,      excuses aside it's har for me to figure out the perspective and to boot I got landed a huge load at work.

I'll post a WIP tonight for sure, whatever happens as I'm aware that people may, or have in the past signed up and then not delivered.

So far the grid looks amazing and I'm struggling to find a personal favourite :)

Kind regards
