In my very humble and inexperienced opinion this is a definite improvement. I think one thing to consider might be that the rocks seem to be a very similar color to some of the elements of the house. The piece might be better served by desaturating the rocks in the ground a bit.

Again, I am pretty new to pixel art, so take this with a grain of salt.
